At the moment we have subsidies for the rich. You have implicity subsidy for the banks which mostly they keep the gains from, but they also pass it on to those rich enough to get on the property ladder. Plus a dozen other schemes (eg first-time buyer) which are essentially bank/property benefits.
Then you have quantative easing, where governments print money and hand it to the banks devaluing the pound in our pocket.
Ironically, despite all the talk of handouts, even if universal basic income becomes a thing it probably won't compete with the massive transference of taxpayer money from poor to rich, it would just redress some of the imbalance.
