4 days could be a winner here.

Unknown armed men control Crimea airport, could be Russian Army.

Nobody yet knows the identities of the armed men who seized control of Simferopol airport.

But their equipment, their vehicles and their behaviour all signal that this is a trained military unit, not a rag-tag group of pro-Russian loyalists.

"These men look like a formed and organised body of troops. They appear to be disciplined, confident and uniformly dressed and equipped," says Brigadier Ben Barry, a land warfare expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.
...
All we know is that what looks to be a military unit has secured the airport in Simferopol, the Crimean regional capital.

AP journalists in Crimea have spotted a convoy of nine Russian armored personnel carriers and a truck on a road between the port city of Sevastopol and the regional capital, Sinferopol.

The Russian tricolor flags were painted on the vehicles, which were parked on the side of the road near the town of Bakhchisarai, apparently because one of them had mechanical problems.

Russia is supposed to notify Ukraine of any troop movements outside the naval base it maintains in Sevastopol under a lease agreement with Ukraine.

Is it "Ukraine" or "THE Ukraine?" I've heard it both ways but it can't be both. This needs to be resolved today.

Yeah Russia showing its true colors. This is really, really scary.

I don't think there's much to say, just check your favorite news source :P There's a full fledged invasion going on Crimea. Closing airspace, cutting communications, movement of troops...

Time to join NATO.

That doesn't justify Russia's actions a one bit.

We won't go into the Ukraine but that isn't a prerequisite for a rekindling of a cold war. It is being reported that Russia has control of the Crimea.

Corporate imperialism aims to break the national spirit. The few remaining sovereign nations are the final obstacles to the looming threat of a global transnational corporate empire. Corporate imperialism’s only concern is the bottom line: it is on a permanent quest to maximize profit. It is not about bringing the supposed gift of civilization to savages anymore, unlike the old-fashioned imperialist adventures.
Iraq, then applied to Libya, Egypt. Now, Syria, Ukraine, Mali, Central African Republic, Venezuela and the entire Middle East.

*Interesting points of view, imo

I think it's a serious question.

Much as I decry Putin and Russia trampling all over Ukrainian democracy, I have to ask:
(1) What, realistically, can the US do? We sure as hell aren't risking war with Russia over Ukraine. Sorry, Ukraine, you should have had more oil.
(2) After countless interventions in Latin America (and other less local countries), the rest of the world has to take anything the US says about superpower relations with neighbors with a hefty grain of salt.

Putin gonna Putin.
