Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

One question that seems to be getting largely ignored in the public discussion of this issue:

What kind of terrorism paraphernalia can they find with these scanners/frisks that they would be unable to detect using the previous less-intrusive methods?

They had those blower machines that could detect minute traces of explosive residue in the air.

Metal detectors will detect guns/knives, etc.

Are they really worried about a terrorist shoving some kind of plastic knife up his ass or taping it under his nutsack or whatever? What do these things do that the old machines couldn't regarding terrorism?

It seems to me that these new security procedures tend to do a lot to enhance the governments ability to detect money/drugs, and almost nothing to enhance it's ability to stop an airplane bomb/hijacking.

Personally, I don't travel much, so I don't really care about the health risks of the scanner, or some TSA clown seeing a naked image of me on a computer screen, but I certainly hate the fact that if I'm traveling with a lot of cash, I'm now like 1000% more likely to get hassled by the DEA and have to fight a f'ing civil forfeiture.

So, where does this type of thinking end? When they decide to implant you with a micro-chip and stamp a bar-code on the back of your neck? If your an upstanding citizen, you have nothing to worry about. Right?

Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

I must be in a huge minority from day one here. I never had the attitude of we should do whatever we can to be safer. If people hate us for how we live, then hate us. Attack us. I don't think we should ever give up one civil liberty for security. But that's another topic..

At first I thought I wouldn't care if security asked me to go through one of those things. Then I realized I would NOT be happy if my girl was asked to go through it, and if I had an 18 year old daughter I would be 100% against it. Stick your security up your ass.

I think I would just take the pat down to make them do more work.

weve sent young people to "die for our freedom" for a long time but it sure is easy to give it up when the violence is brought home even tho the odds of dying in a terrorist attack is astronomical.

I'm a trouble maker.

Wonder what happens if you give the screeners the finger while standing in the body scanner? Would that raise a flag?

The TSA considers a six ounce bottle of shampoo to be deadly but two three ounce bottles to be just fine.

In March 2010, TSA began deploying 450 advanced imaging technology units, which were purchased with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.
In other words, these were funded by the stimulus bill.

I find it laughable that people consider this infringing on your rights, your being asked to be subject to a screening that can see potential devices behind your clothes, if you refuse this you get patted down, Big ****ing deal
So- where you draw the line?

Clearly you believe that in order to fly commercially - you, your wife, your daughters and sons are forced to submit to: A - being viewed naked by a low level security employee or B - being subject to an intensive frisk of your body - including groin and breasts (remember - wives and daughters are included here).

So where is the line for you?

Subject your daughters to this to ride the subway? After all - no one HAS to ride the subway.

How about if they wanted to institute this security at a company's office building?

At your child's school?

At the mall?

At the grocery store?

Why not random stops on the highway?

How about everyone upon leaving their neighborhood?

Its called gradualism. Only a matter of time before there's a bomb/bombscare at a football game and these are introduced. Hello Police state. They need to be stopped now.

Conan actually took a few minutes to have a TSA agent demonstrate this invasive pat-down process last night on his show. Pretty informative.

I'd love to see the statistics on who gets called out of line.

I'm sure there aren't a lot of dumpy old hags in the mix. There should really be an independent entity supervising all TSA checkpoints and employees.

The TSA bullying pisses me off just as much as anything else. This is like a power-tripping cop-wanna-be pedophiles wet dream job.
