My daughter is a soph in HS and something similar happened at her school. Someone wrote whites only on the wall of a girls bathroom stall.

The kids had a "sit in" in the hallways that day, the following day some things got broke/ more violent.

I do however wonder if a portion of these happenings are from

1) anti trump kids, just trying to create racial tension to build more trump hate.

2) dumb teens who dont realize the segregation history and the feelings it would stir up.

3) a completely tasteless joke

Todays youth seem to incredibly open to having friends of all races... at least judging by my daughters group of friends. It just seems odd to me that there are these things happening in HS and universities. I would expect it more in the gen pop so to speak.

Water fountain truthers ITT

High schools and universities are places where people of color go to become educated and therefore move up in the economy. It's no coincidence we're seeing a lot of these incidents happen in that space.

The same factors are why we saw desegregation battles in the 1950s/60s take place at schools and why so much white flight fretting from the 70s to today took the politically correct guise over anxiety about school quality, busing and affirmative action. They're critical institutions of social normalization and the place where winners and losers in society are first marked out and white parents and surely some of their kids know it.

It's a funny thing to study but pre WWII America had much, much more political street violence than we see today. When your economy is manufacturing based, you battle over railway lines and outside factories and in the market spaces on the street.

Contemporary America generates its wealth from information and moved all of that class anxiety into schools by proxy. Which for the cynical social commenters might seem downright bizarre but on reflection it's perhaps fitting.

I have a 13yo daughter who's in 8th grade that goes to a Catholic school in southern Arizona where she and a boy are the only two whites in the grade. Without giving any details, I'll just say that things are tense at school esp w/those two being the only whites. It really sucks for her/them.

Honestly my response to that would be (besides the fact that there are a couple fake stories floating around), it's just another form of racism that you refuse to believe people's stories. Believe what you want to believe, I'm doing my best to only post true stories. And if you find out a story is false like at the top of the thread, by all means post and let us know.

Now is the time to have those tough, uncomfortable conversations with your friends and family guys. It's gonna suck but you need to talk with them and you need to let them know you're not okay with the racism, you're not okay with the hate, and they need to be not okay with it either. Don't let racist jokes go by. Say something. Don't let racism go unnoted in any work situation. I know we all don't want to do these things because it's "lame" and like I said uncomfortable. But we've produced 60 million Trump voters by ignoring these issues and just wishing they would die off. They're not going to just die off. We have to be active. Go out and make a difference.
