What do people like that think about sharia?

We're right and they're wrong?

This is good for us, that is good for them, just keep it away from me?

I'm just being a reasonable moderate presenting all sides, they are fanatics?
09-15-2018 , 01:55 PM
You pretty much nailed it, with a few modifications.

They think that sharia is terrible.

We're right and they're wrong.

This is good for us, that is bad for them, definitely keep it away from me, and even try to eradicate it elsewhere.

I'm a reasonable guy who is correct, they are wrong and deluded.

They don't even see the connection. They are the good guys in their movie and everyone else is wrong.

This. As we've seen many times, conservatives are basically people with a very low capacity to think outside their own point of view.

Heard a segment on NPR last night regarding immigration/refugees and the impact Trump's actions are having on small towns with significant refugee populations. They interviewed a Trump supporter in Kansas and it felt like a joke how well he checked all the stereotypes.

Basically the guy didn't believe or know anything. If I recall correctly he asked what a refugee is, which threw the interviewer back. As she started to explain what a refugee is he interrupted to say he didn't believe it. He then said he didn't believe refugees come from war-torn/high crime areas and that they make it up to get into the country and need to leave. They went back and forth where he just flatly didn't believe any definition or stat she provided.

Pretty good definition of Conservatism. Listen to Joe Rogan's interview with Ted Nugent sometime for a good example of this.

Constant meandering generic rants, overly simplistic worldviews, inability to consider other ideas, "they" who disagree with him are in some coordinated cabal against freedom/America, etc.

I disagree with Ted greatly, but gave him the benefit of the doubt to learn more. I doubt he'd do the same if he were in my shoes. Even Joe was getting irritated when he tried multiple times to explain to Ted the benefits of marijuana and how to use it responsibly (Ted is straight edge).

Texas school superintendent, thinking he was DMing, posts Facebook comment saying "When you need precision decision making you can’t count on a black quarterback"

Quote:
“I wish it had never been posted,” Lynn Redden, the superintendent of the Onalaska (Tex.) Independent School District, told the Chronicle on Monday. The official, whose district is located about 85 miles north of Houston, was frustrated by a game-ending sequence in the Texans’ 20-17 loss Sunday to the Tennessee Titans in which Watson mismanaged his team’s final play.
He wishes he hadn't been a dumbass but notably missing is any kind of regret over actually thinking that black people can't be quarterbacks

Quote:
Redden claimed that while he understands how his comment could be viewed as racist, that was not his intention. He said that he was talking about how black quarterbacks have fared in the league, telling the Chronicle, “Over the history of the NFL, they have had limited success.”
"I'm sorry I posted it but historically I'm right"

"I feel really bad about what I posted, but... Ya know, black quarterbacks, amiright?"

"I'm sorry that my thoughts about racial inferiority were posted publicly but I'm right" is modern racism in a nutshell.

Sorry not sorry instead of doubling down is an improvement I guess?

The Department of Homeland Security’s investigative office in Hampton Roads is “clearly rife with offensive and racially hostile behavior,” the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in a decision obtained by The Virginian-Pilot.

The finding was based, among other things, on a supervisor who called black and Hispanic employees “monkeys” and an agent who had a photo on his phone of a black child in a fried-chicken bucket.

The commission has ordered the office to give employees training about race-based harassment, post a notice about the findings and consider disciplining the two responsible.

Sheriff of NJ's largest county caught on tape making racist remarks

Quote:
“He talked about the whole thing, the marijuana, sanctuary state ... better criminal-justice reform,” he says of the governor. “Christ almighty, in other words let the blacks come in, do whatever ... they want, smoke their marijuana, do this, do that, and don’t worry about it. You know, we’ll tie the hands of cops.”

Later Saudino says that Gurbir Grewal, the first Sikh attorney general in the country, was appointed by Murphy solely because of his religion.

“He didn’t do that to help Bergen County. He did that because of the turban,” he says.

In her statement, she said a student* at West Ouachita High School walked up to her son on Sept. 14 and hung a noose around his neck. When a teacher asked the white student why he did it, he reportedly replied that he wanted to see how many black boys' necks he could put it*around and get photos.

Illinois priest and legal resident of the US for 14 years to be deported to UK for casting an illegal vote in 2006

Quote:
Boase said it all began when he passed his driver’s test at an Illinois DMV in 2005, and a government employee asked him if he would like to register to vote. Despite Boase’s two forms of British identification, Boase said, the employee did not question his citizenship, leading him to believe registering would be fine.

Army soldier sentenced to 11 years for detonating chlorine bomb outside military base

This is a nice "front page news if he wasn't a good ole' white boy" story

Quote:
A trio of soldiers was conducting land navigation in the Kisatchie forest, which authorities said has been partly deputized for Army use. The soldiers were about 300 feet away when they heard loud noises and saw smoke, according to court filings. They raced to the scene and found Taylor in uniform climbing out of a car, cellphone in hand, as if he was filming the incident, the soldiers told investigators.

After he was pressed for details, Taylor left in a car with some materials later recovered from the side of a road. He was later detained.
Quote:
Authorities recovered an empty pipe bomb at Taylor’s apartment, along with a military-made training grenade fuze and smoke grenade, court filings show. There were other materials linked to chlorine in his car, the document says.
We got a budding domestic terrorist here! Oh, wait, sorry:

Quote:
Joseph, the prosecutor who investigated and brought the indictment, told The Washington Post that it was unclear whether Taylor had intended to harm anyone. He had a fascination with improvised explosive devices, fellow soldiers told Joseph.
He's just fascinated with explosives

This week's episode of This American Life podcast, Episode 657, The Runaways, is really worth a listen.

https://www.thisamericanlife.org/657/the-runaways

The cliffs are that in Suffolk County, Long Island, the police essentially DGAF about Latino kids going missing. Ties into Trump and his MS-13 hysteria, how the police never seemed that interested in actually taking down MS-13, and includes difficult to listen to audio of parents getting the run around by police and this deplorable asshat belittling the female TAL reporter over matters of fact related to the disappearances (spoiler alert: she's correct).

Vermont's only black female state rep is harassed into resigning

Quote:
First came the racist tweets and the online threats.

Then there were the swastikas on the trees.

And then Kiah Morris said her home was invaded.

For Morris, the only black woman in the Vermont House of Representatives, it became too much.

The two-term representative from Bennington had spent the past two years enduring racial harassment and online threats that prompted an investigation by the Vermont Attorney General’s Office.

At the same time, her husband needed open-heart surgery.

And while she had planned to not seek reelection and to finish her term, by Sept. 25 Morris had made up her mind: She would resign, effective immediately.
In her most recent re-election campaign she faced open white supremacy from people that felt comfortable talking to the local paper with their real name:

Quote:
And then, in the days after Morris won the Democratic primary that August, she logged onto Twitter to find a photo showing an offensive caricature of a black person, accompanied by vulgar language that read in part, “I be representin dem white m—–f—–s of Bennington,” as reported by the Berkshire Eagle. The Twitter user, identified as Max Misch, told the Eagle he was “demonstrating the absurdity of a black woman being a Vermont state representative” in a predominantly white district. A judge would later issue a protective stalking order against Misch, requiring him to stay away from Morris, the Bennington Banner reported.
This is what identity politics looks like: "I'm white, I refuse to let a black person represent me"
