Is there a group in history that has a bigger 'feeling persecuted: actual power held' ratio than US evangelicals? Maybe nazi germany? The old lebensraum.

A Washington Post article about a white woman in a historically white, rural town who works in a factory where almost everyone is hispanic and no one can or wants to speak to her in English.

The main takeaway from that though isn't that she is racist, but is a lazy *******. She doesn't want to learn even basic Spanish and try to make friends with her co-workers and just complains to her boyfriend about how there aren't any other white people to speak English with at work.
Where's the story about the white woman working at the all Hispanic glue factory your pony ended up in?

"I'm not saying she's right. I'm only saying that I can empathize with her position. I lasted a year at that job and moved on promptly. I imagine she can do better than a chicken factory."

I can emphasize some - but you had a lot tougher language issue - the difference between Korean and English is (I'm fairly certain) a lot bigger than English and Spanish.

Her wanting everyone at the chicken factory to speak English is like a blacksmith bitching about Ford. Things have changed. You need to change with them. Was ever thus. And I'm not so sure about her being able to do better than the chicken factory. She couldn't be arsed to go beyond high school because she "didn't like it". She hasn't changed jobs because..... I dunno. Hoping something will fall out of the sky, maybe?

Working in a god damned chicken factory would be much worse than not understanding anyone there imo.
07-31-2018 , 04:32 PM
I love how she studied Spanish in high school and is surrounded by Spanish speakers for 8 hours a day and absolutely refuses to learn any minimum of the language

I didn’t know chickens are still built by hand, I assumed all the chicken factories had been automated by now.

Still a lot of custom hand work. You gotta know how to get the nuggets tightened down properly, or they wobble.

Neighbors (and daughter!!) of white Kansas man arrested for murdering a black woman claim he's a white supremacist

Quote:
Kidwell pointed police to the garage. There, wrapped in garbage bags and stuffed in a trash can, was Cooper’s body. Kidwell was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. In his interview with police, he said the incident started when his anger flared during an argument.

People who knew the suspect, however, offered another motive: race. Cooper, who was African American, was attacked because Kidwell was an avowed white supremacist, they claim.

“This was a hate crime,” a neighbor told the Star. “One hundred percent a hate crime.”

More unusual, that depiction was backed up by a member of Kidwell’s family.

Kidwell’s estranged daughter Crystal Foster told the Star that her father had a swastika tattoo on his arm, posed for pictures draped in a Confederate flag, proclaimed himself a member of the Ku Klux Klan and regularly spoke about attacking African Americans. “He’s been a monster his whole life,” she told the paper. “He’s the true definition of evil.”
Aside from his daughter's ringing endorsement, dude seems swell:

Quote:
Kidwell’s criminal career has been significant. According to the AP, he spent a total of 15 years in prison on a number of charges. In 2011, he was convicted of attacking and sexually assaulting a black woman, forcing her to engage in sexual activity with him without a condom when he was HIV positive.

Foster, his estranged daughter, told the Star that it fit with an alleged pattern.

“He pretends to be” black people’s friends “and then he harms them,” Foster said.

Looking forward for the Chiefsplanet quotes posted here when some deranged Trump supporter kills a CNN reporter and they say "well maybe if they didn't write so much fake news they wouldn't have deserved it"

This. That article was so tilting. Like, she stands there silently every day. If she took one day of high school Spanish, she knows "Hola, como estas?" or "Me llamo Heaven. Como se llama?"

If she took 30 seconds on Google, she could look those phrases up.

Also, it's 2018, download Google Translate on your phone and ask someone to help you learn some Spanish or offer to help them learn English.

Like, sure, you were born here and they moved here, so they have a little more of the burden to assimilate, but you're a ****ing human being and so are they, maybe all it takes is saying, "Hola!" so they know you don't hate them...

Unless you do.

This journalist did a poor job of digging into THAT side of the story. Like a few questions NEEDED to be asked:

1. Do you literally not remember a WORD from high school Spanish?

2. Do you know of the existence of Google Translate?

3. Why have you made literally zero effort to learn any words at all?

I believe this has been understood by some progressive, but now there is some research to show that white voters like welfare, but only when whites receive it.

It's so sad that the GOP is in power because a large segment of whites feel threatened by minorities being on their level. Every bull**** excuse about taxation being theft, government is terrible with tax dollars, etc. all ties back to them being mad minorities might benefit from welfare programs.

Yup. Every view a deplorable holds can be tied to racial resentment.

Anytime some deplorable cites economic anxiety, it'll always be about some foreigner taking their job, welfare queens, or some bull**** like that. It won't be about getting shafted on taxes or lack of wage growth in the lower and middle income classes. It won't have anything to do with rising healthcare prices and the end of Dodd-Frank. It's always racially driven and based out of their own insecurity. They've been able to coast on their race and now they're afraid they won't be able to do that anymore.

Eh, I’m at least a little sympathetic insofar as it’s not trivial for a mom who’s working a factory job to pick up a new language. “Why don’t she just learn Spanish” sounds exactly the deplorable “why don’t they lean English?” line I’ s been hearing for years. Yeah, probably legitimately sucks working somewhere where no one speaks your language. Finding a new job/language is not a simple thing for someone working factory shifts.

Having said that, I get why it’s annoying to read yet another Sad White Person article when there’s so much **** going on and minorities have been coping with these kinds of situations for decades. WaPo/NYT really need to broaden their range and have more Sad Brown Person stories before this girl is going to get much sympathy from anyone.

I hate to say it, but I think there's not much we can do regarding these voters and we need to just wait them out in addition to really targeting non-voters/getting the base riled up. I've lost all faith they will come back from the ledge.

It just sucks Democrats have to rely on voting demographics that don't vote. I speak to people my age all the time and almost all of them are apathetic to voting and politics.

I don't think she's a mom, also I don't think anyone is expecting her to become fluent in Spanish, but she's literally not speaking on her entire shift. She could learn three or four phrases to greet people, and see what happens next. If they blew her off, she'd then actually get some sympathy.

Most people do more language learning to go on a two week vacation in a foreign country than she's done in, what, a couple years in this job?

She had taken some Spanish in high school, but had dropped it, not because she had any animosity toward the language or the people who spoke it, but because that just wasn’t her — that was other parts of Lebanon County, not Fredericksburg.
This was the most telling sentence for me. She doesn't see Spanish as a skill or a tool, she sees it as an identity that "just isn't her."

So on second thought maybe she's not just lazy and an *******.

I don’t think she literally doesn’t know any Spanish phrases at all. She wants to engage in normal office chit-chat and you do need to put in some work to do that. OK, she could take night courses or whatever on her own time, still seems like a heavy lift for someone just for the sake of routine office banter.

Man, you guys are harsh. She’s a lazy ******* because she didn’t like high school Spanish class? Consider that maybe she’s didn’t know any Spanish speakers and it maybe wasn’t obvious at the time she’d ever need to speak it.
08-01-2018 , 02:07 PM
You guys already said most of what I wanted to say regarding this lazy POS, but what was telling to me too was that when the Hispanic girl "summoned up all the English she knew" Heaven still wanted the other girl to make the effort to develop the relationship. Like, dumbass, she already DID make the effort. You just never reciprocated.

She's just lazy and doesn't want anything to change. Too bad, that's not the way the world works.
08-01-2018 , 02:11 PM
The point isn't that she was a lazy high schooler, the point is her negative attitude towards Spanish. To her, it's not just a language or a skill, it's an identity that she doesn't want.
08-01-2018 , 02:20 PM
I mean, I’ve heard many a deeper ***** about lazy first generation immigrants who just REFUSE to learn English, this seems like a mirror image of that.
08-01-2018 , 02:48 PM
I’m just curious why they wrote the story at all, like where is the demand for this type of journalism? I can at least understand why people might be interested in farmers willing to go broke for Trump but who even bothered to find this lady and her plight?

I certainly agree that White Woman Has A Sad At Her Job is not really worth a full page and is a bit infuriating given the constant stream of white safari sketches that get published.
