If HRC won I could be fully engrossed in my wonderful, yes I'm going to say it--privileged life while bombs rained, deportations continued, racisim institutionalized and otherwise was rampant even if not spoken at such a high volume, environmental devastation was given a lick and a promise, corruption flourished etc. all because I could hide behind the "progress". It was not okay before, even if this is orders of magnitude worse, but I would have felt fairly alright not being thrust into recognizing it several times per news cycle.

I got into a minor politics discussion with two black co-workers today. One says he voted for Trump, the other says he doesn't like Trump but didn't like Hillary more (not sure if he actually voted for him). I didn't go into the whole "How can you vote for Trump as a black person?" thing though.

I'd be more curious to hear the specific beefs he had with Hillary

They're ignorant of politics I'd say. One is a single father, working a full time job. You think he follows the issues, watches the news, keeps up on what's going on in Washington DC? And not the smartest dude either. The company has been offering overtime recently and he was explaining how he only limits himself to X hours/week of OT because if you work too many you get taxed at a higher rate. I guess he doesn't understand the concept of tax brackets.

What exactly is going on there

I looked up Portland on google and came up with a short article how the people on the ground were protesting mass deportations by ICE and chained themselves together. The cops were called and put on the sensory deprivation stuff on them so the tools they used to separate them wouldn't damage their hearing or sight. It's a little odd that they have all this, what other situations would they use it for?
