I believe Trump was defending why he pardoned him when the news cycle was busy with the hurricane. He's basically saying I wasn't trying to hide it and thought it would get attention because of the hurricane.

At least I think that's the context Trump said it in. I could be wrong. But if I'm not, then as wrong as this pardon was, it's misleading crap like this that provides ammo for conservatives calling MSM insincere and fake.

Plus we recently elected the far left NDP for the provincial government when the two right wing parties split the vote.
