I’m a medical professional and even I’m not sure what the “best” drug(s) to kill someone are, mainly because our job is trying to make sure we never actually do so. I mean I probably could figure it out but I wouldn’t know what doses to use and i would insist on proper sedation, which I wouldn’t trust a non-ICU nurse to administer. My buddy is an anesthesiologist and if anyone knows the best cocktail it’s probably them, since they get relatively close to it when they work.
Before the recent rash of overdoses I would not have thought of fentanyl as particularly effective, especially compared to other opioids, so I really need to review what’s behind the it’s sudden lethality, whether it’s just magnitude of doses or something with the manufacturing or lacing.
I also hate the death penalty and think that a gas chamber or firing squad is likely more humane than a squirrely injection.
Edit: Per recent WaPo article it seems like a combination of high doses (therapeutic fentanyl doses are very low) and lacing it with other drugs are to blame. One hour. Bonus: an expert puts part of the blame on Trump as his attitude and policy towards China make them less likely to help us curb the supply coming from them.
