The most important thing we can do right now is be 100% committed to becoming a better country. Many Americans are heart broken and many Americans are happy. It seems like the standard answer for getting rid of Medicare and other social safety nets is that the rich will just magically decide to donate to private charities that will take over for the government, even though that's never happened before and is why the safety nets are there in the first place.

I imagine that by the time Trump actually takes office the ALEC creeps will have a laundry list of stuff he could do from day one to further the cause of free markets and limited government (aka more money for rich people). I don't really know the extent of the executives power over labor and environmental regulations, but the people at ALEC do, and we can be pretty sure they have lots of smart people working on how much they can accomplish and how fast they can get it done.

Like, if you don't already have enough money saved to retire right now or you're not one of the principals at your company or you don't have some sort of profit sharing plan that puts a ton of money in your pocket, then you're in for a wild ride over the next few years. If you depend on social security or medicare, or you're planning on depending on them, then good luck.
