Is the Trump Economy Good for Poker? Is the Trump Economy Good for Poker?

The Justice Department late Monday issued a legal opinion that could further restrict online gambling even as some states have been moving to embrace it — a restriction long sought by GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson, who controls one of the world’s largest casino empires.

The opinion from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, which will probably be tested in the courts, reversed an Obama-era opinion that declared that the Wire Act applied only to sports gambling.

Lmaoooooooooooooooooooo

Well done mason

Yes this fits well with trickle down being a huge con. However, it’s not, guys. It totally not.

I guess that depends on the meaning of the words "anything like this"...

this thread is just beyond parody, they should make a new word for this because i'm struggling to come up with anything appropriate

Turns out that poker was never a Trump game. Maybe we should all pitch in and get Mason a copy of Hoyles for future reference. Might save some future embarrassment.

What’s truly amazing is the complete lack of self awareness. Imagine starting that insane “Obama Taxes and 2+2” thread, getting brutally and repeatedly dunked on by your own user base, then thinking “yep, I’ll go start a MAGA thread, that should go well!”
01-15-2019 , 11:13 AM
No chance the integrity vacuum that is Mason Malmuth ever responds to this thread again or acknowledges how he’s been ethered by anything Rump has done right?

Also probably time to edit title to add (No)

Mason Malmuth is just an older uglier lifetime movie wife who thinks the husband that beats her really does love her
01-15-2019 , 03:27 PM
Damn. I only watch the Lifetime Christmas movies.

The darkest thing that happens in those is the career-minded city woman dumps her aloof workaholic husband back in the big city for the local flannel-clad beauhunk.

Is Eric Holder's Justice Department at it again?

And/or:

[ ] Moves to the country after her divorce and meets-cute with the local building inspector who keeps delaying her new store's permit.

[ ] Gets away alone to a bed and breakfast in VT, only to be forced to share a suite with a young, bitter widower, with whom she has much in common.

[ ] Falls in love with the psychologist who treats her preteen niece after she comes to live with her following her grandmother's tragic run-in with a reindeer.

So about that DOJ decision that reversed the Obama ruling about internet gambling. The kick is Sheldon Aldelson's lobbyist just called up the DOJ and said, "nah you guys decided that wrong" and they reversed their opinion. Corruption is a hell of a drug

You ungrateful beggars asked for more SCOOPS in this thriving poker economy and Trump and Mason have delivered them bigly.

I would guess Mason has deleted about 100 posts in this thread, many troll posts but also a good portion of them being legitimate questions or criticisms (although he obviously doesn’t view them like that), and I definitely feel that the criticisms in this thread and the whining trolls like the fat wolf are two of the main factors in his decision.

I just don’t get why he even created this thread if he wouldn’t answer legitimate criticisms but whatever it’s his site.

Dont think mason deleted any posts itt

Is it still a bannable offense to try to get Mason to acknowledge Sheldon Adelson?

I'll show myself out.

If you really wanted me to stop poking the bear you would PM me to delete or edit the post. Instead you quote it so I couldn't change my mind if I wanted to.

I'm on to your game mister.

But yeah I'm kind of buzzed, please just ignore me.

I don't really think it's poking the bear. Mason wanted to discuss whether or not the Trump economy was good for poker. Pointing out that there are forces affecting the game that are much stronger than the current state of the economy is a legitimate extension of the discussion. Games were better in 2008 when we were in the middle of the biggest recession in generations.

Most of us here probably took up the game during the boom years, and were probably aged 18-30 when we did. The current generation coming of age right now is likely finding it much harder to take up the game than we did. The access to online poker just isn't there. College tuition is significantly more expensive than it was 16 years ago as well.

Bankroll requirements to play live are prohibitive for most living below a middle class income. You can easily go through a $1k downswing at $1/$2 in an 8 hour period. Not many young people can afford that. Many of us got started in lower stakes limit games, or much smaller (.05/.10) games online. New players don't have those options.

Also, one thing I've heard from many here is the Trump tax cuts also reduced the weekly withholdings so refunds will be smaller. We know people don't behave rationally with money. If they get an extra $30 a week in their paycheck, it's unlikely that makes it to a poker table. But an extra $1500 in February is easy to spend at a casino. Those of us who still play live know that tax refund season produces a mini boom every year that lasts about a month or so. The Trump plan is bad for this.

Finally you have a GOP megadonor who uses his bought political capital to fight the expansion of online poker.

So talking about whether the Trump economy (if it's even better than what an extension of the Obama economy would be) is good for poker is like saying a drop of chlorine is good for a swimming pool that has a pipe of raw sewage getting dumped in it. Sure, in a vacuum the chlorine is better than nothing, but if having a clean pool is your goal, maybe stop ****ting in it first.
