Yeah, I've worked in that neighborhood a fair amount, mostly a long time ago as an appraiser. It used to be just about all Black and is now mixed with Hispanic. It could have been Hispanic people who assaulted that guy as well - just bad individuals of whatever group. A white woman with her four year old is almost impossible.

Not that there aren't poor white neighborhoods, there are out in the desert, but Willowbrook is probably the poorest most rundown area in the whole LA area. It's a little unincorporated island and gets ****ty services. When you cross the border into Compton it's a big big improvement.

That reminds me of a time a couple years ago when I was swimming somewhere I didn't belong. It was pre-Trump and I'm white, so I had no problems.

Some friends gave us their extra wristband for access to their neighborhood pool. My wife and I took our kids one afternoon. I'm the kind of person who gets nervous about doing anything kind of maybe possibly against the rules, so I was a little nervous we would be caught. I decided I wasn't going to fraternize with anyone.

Of course, I ended up getting into a conversation with another dad and OF COURSE, he asked me where I lived (in a friendly way, trying to get to know me better, not in a "you don't belong here" way). The neighborhood has two halves of sorts, so I figured my best bet was to say I lived on the other side, as I thought there was a greater chance that people using the pool lived closer to it.

"I live on the other side of the neighborhood."
