He didn't run away and get shot. He fought the guy and got shot. It's possible there was nothing he could have done to stop the escalation, but ime that's not likely.

He ran away and the crazy guy with the gun who stalks around the neighbourhood and was openly racist tried to kidnap him so he tried to fight him off and got shot.

the ****? he did run away, Zimmerman even said so in his phone convo with 911. he then chased him down, started an altercation, and shot him dead.
