The Tragic Death of the Republican Party The Tragic Death of the Republican Party

Of course the other thing about that ad is that all that production value is totally wasted because it's preaching to the choir. One of the Tea Party's (that's their ad if you noticed) failings is not realizing that their point of view isn't nearly as contagious as they think.

You probably could under current frist amendment law, though not 100% sure.
I meant FCC, not FFC.

Also, there may not be good legal precedent for my hypothetical, because in 20th century America you would be massively called out by the party apparatus if you tried to run an ad suggesting that the IRS is monitoring your children's prayers (real time no less).

It's like all the crap that makes tech people hate CSI but to the nth power. Hope to see a 10 minute segment on the daily show about that ad.

this was interesting. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archive....php?ref=fpblg

i agree that a large part of the country has lost their minds. the more that we take the republican party seriously and give its elected representatives air time to speak, the more we enable craziness. like i said the lead every sunday should be "the gop is a crazy con job with no basis in economic reality and the dumb asses have fallen for it, now how do we marginalize them so we can go forward and not have to worry about a revolution"

check out breitbart: obama had a rally at amazon hq. amazon head buys washington post. the comments are amazing...http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/0...zos-conspiracy

am i worried? no, these people are too fin ignorant to do any real harm, like a revolution. if we default, i think we find our way out of it. and i dont think we default. and time is on our side. kids are in general smarter and old people are dying.

Echo-chamber syndrome.

nice comments, OP.... and I like this comment...

BUT, isn't the republican party doomed to a split here, in which case democrats cruise more than they have been recently.

republicans are screwed. I had no doubt (and I said many times beforehand) that Obama would get easily re-elected. most people despise the religious right (not even sure sarah palin is religious). maybe the idiot right... and Obama is an extremely well-liked person.

Don't get distracted by the sideshow.

It's what they want. It's what they count on. Every time you start to wonder what Wizard of Oz character Public Service Commission President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh might be (she's a horse of a different color) you play right into the hands of those who would confuse the issue.

It's classic shell game strategy, and every two-bit sharpie knows it. As soon as the mark allows something shiny to catch his eye, he'll inevitably take his eye off the pea. And he's a loser.

Don't get distracted by the sideshow.

So here I am at the third informal hearing for the PSC to review Alabama Power's rate structure, and I'm focused and ready and before the meeting even comes to order ....

Ooh! Shiny!

I'm gone. And I'm not alone.

Because Cavanaugh, at a state meeting of a quasi-judicial regulatory body, is handing Prattville Baptist preacher John Jordan a commendation, even though he is on the agenda to speak as an interested party on behalf of the Tea Party. She's explaining that he gets to give the invocation because he is her friend.

And then Jordan polls the audience on who believes in prayer. At a state regulatory meeting. And then he prays that the world's gone crazy, that good is bad and bad is good, that "we've said it's Ok to have same-sex marriage. We have sinned."

The new federal health care law will "destroy the elderly" and "homosexual marriage" is designed to supplant God with government, Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) father warned conservatives in Iowa over the weekend.
Well, that explains a lot

I see Mr Cruz still has Jesus in his heart because he hates the queers.

Yes! I heard the ad on the radio when I was listening to talk radio in Austin. The ad boggled my mind because it's almost self evidently a scam.

When I was 18 I bought one of those survival seed kits and planted some of the stuff, waste of time, but I was convinced at the time that the money collapse was coming, lol.

The sad part is that the people who represent the bumpkins likely to be hoodwinked by that ad are just going to feed their fear rather than help stop somebody from stealing from them.

How do I break into the "scamming gullible limbaugh/beck/hannity listeners" business? It seems quite profitable and unregulated.

Peter Poppoffing and selling holy water is probably more profitable and easy IMO, just need to learn about 5 bible verses and get a bad haircut and a baby-blue suit.

The funny thing is that if they only advertised it as "hey look at our great seeds for fresh vegetables!", Glenn Beck's audience would be all "RAH RAH VEGETABLES ARE FOR PINKO PUSSIES". But when you add in the Obamapocalypse twist, now you have got yourself a hot item.

Some people farm for ourselves and our posterity. Some, though, do it for a histrionic posterior on television.

I wonder how many things you can do this for.

"After the apocalypse, gas will mostly disappear because it has to shipped across the world. Why not have a car that runs off of electricity that can be generated by wind or water. Buy your Apocalyprius today! It comes with optional wind or water turbine so you'll be the envy of all your post apocalyptic friends".

I assume all these people started selling cell-phones at the mall, or whatever that person did before you could do that.

You won't be the one laughing when you are starving because you don't have a crisis garden.

I'm going to start selling an herbal remedy for gay urges. "President Obama is sure to mandate gay marriage any day now, be prepared with Supress-A-Gay, your all natural herbal solution to help you fight the gay agenda, the way nature intended it to be fought."

The graph in that video deserves to be noted for how unbelievably awesome it was.

I can just imagine the producer going to the graphics team and being like "we need to punch up the point that seeds could be worth more than gold and silver" and someone pitches they just have three lines on a graph without axis rising steadily then at some point the green one shoots up past the silver and gold lines.

They didnt even go to the effort of making gold and silver spike in value. Intentionally or not they literally went with the first thing the graphics guys cobbled together in 5 minutes.
