Without going into specifics, but this has already been addressed with "mixed bundling" drawn from game theory/price discrimination branch of economics.

FCC votes to kick the can down the road after they get some more "public opinion" on their two options. A) providers can provide fast lanes that are "commercially reasonable" (whatever that means) or B) they can ban paid prioritization online. Vox calls this a minor victory for NN, because until recent backlash they were just going to settle on option A.

Really smart response by Netflix, they should push for more "truth in advertising" in regards to promised service speeds. Shouldn't be able to advertise 20 Meg Service or w/e then provide 2 on any sort of regular basis.

I expect this is part of a negotiation that will end with Netflix paying Verizon some sort of interconnection fee.

What's terrible about that chart is I have Cablevision. If they are at the top of the Netflix streaming speed spectrum I feel really incredibly sorry for those at the bottom. **** them all, hope Netflix keeps calling them out one by one.

Keep in mind the graph isn't absolute speed, just change in speed over time. Cablevision could have been really bad to start with and just gotten a bit better.

As consumers, we don't have to accept this ****, we can boycott. Once net neutrality is gone and ISP's immediately start jacking up prices for open internet, hopefully libraries will still have free internet. I'll go to the library when I actually need to use the internet, I sure as hell won't give Comcast the satisfaction of paying double for the same internet I have now.

This is pretty solid timing. It will probably take a year or two for the FCC to come up with new regs, by which time Google Fiber will create actual competition and improve service, and Obama can steal all the credit.

Yea it's kind of sad. A lot of people will jump up to be against Net Neutrality without even knowing what it is because Obamacare. He's not dumb, he's pretty smart to say dumb things to dumb people.

I hate that people on my side of the aisle dismiss Ted Cruz as an idiot. He isn't. He knows exactly how to bait and manipulate people using fear and hatred. I wonder if he will be dumb enough to run for President though. He has no shot. Though avoiding the issue until after election and after appointing an anti neutrality industry lobbyist to head the FCC are pretty typical to Obama's style of governance. You have control of the freaking executive branch - it would have been a hell of a lot easier to just appoint someone to the FCC who was in favor of net neutrality to begin with!

Rather than pandering to big Hollywood and Telecom donors Obama and the Dems couldve had an easy win and easy PR victory on this issue. Instead they pull BS like this and wake up on the day after the elections and wonder why so few people see them as a credible alternative to the Republicans.
