The worst case scenario here is that the video quality on your Netflix account is not quite as good as it is now.
Or because he made a joke about how he's still working for Verizon, meanwhile making sure that Verizon can now do whatever they want.

I think Netflix will be fine as long as you're OK with paying $29.95/mo for it.

I mean just lol@ the notion that Comcast isn't going to throttle a DIRECT competitor now that the FCC has given it explicit permission to do so. They'd be stupid not to.

wow am I a fish, I bet yes on this for predictit, and they'll probably post the register on jan 1st making no a winner. Lovely.

what are the paths to preventing the repeal of NN? Realistically is it only the one republican who can potentially vote against it?

Lol

Maybe only an extra $10. Kinda baffling that Netflix's stock didn't go down a bit today. All sites who have competition with sites that ISP's own are risky right now but I guess that's for a different forum.

I don't know when that stuff will happen--likely slowly to avoid public outrage but they'll definitely get around to it.

Pardon me for being naive on the matter, since it was passed today, does that mean it goes into effect today? Congress can still shut it down if they pass that bill I’ve been hearing about that can essentially over rule this? Not to mention possible lawsuits etc that may delay this.

IMO you guys worried about Netflix are way off base. Netflix made it. Too many people expect their Netflix for ISPs to **** with it too bad. Maybe they'll have to pay some protection money. But ultimately the ISP's leverage only goes so far. With Hulu, maybe a little farther. With Bob's startup streaming service - forget it. Bob is dead. We've got our Bud Light, Miller Light and Coors Light and that's all the choices we need. Pick one.

Is this a real scenario:

Let's say a website called Nile.com starts up, where you can buy items to be shipped within 2 days, and it starts to gain a ton of traction. Now with the new rules, Amazon can pay the ISP's to make their site faster, and slow Nile.com down to a halt, so that people won't even bother trying to go there. And then Verizon goes to Nile.com and demands more money. Is that a possibility?
12-14-2017 , 08:37 PM
Lol. Dude if you don’t know what net neutrality does can’t help ya.

My probably ignorant opinion is that the death of net neutrality wouldn't be that bad if we had functioning antitrust enforcement. Alas.

Yes, that is possible.

to my knowledge, not only is that possible, its almost guaranteed to happen. there will be a huge barrier of entry to small internet based start ups.

I also think its silly to think that netflix will be ok. They tried screwing with netflix as recently as 2014, they will definitely increase the price. ESPECIALLY if you are in Comcast area or any other area that owns content providers.

Damn. Now we are going back to the pre 2015 era where there were no small internet based startups.

Should boycott as many sites as possible that pay for speed.
