The Tragic Death of Net Neutrality The Tragic Death of Net Neutrality

Vote just happened after a shit pie outlined how the internet will be worse thanks to their vote

And he still refuses to cooperate with law enforcement investigating 2 million fake comments supporting the move on FCC's site. They're not even trying to hide the corruption at this point.

One thing I don't understand is why they'd even bother with the fake comments. Even if every comment submitted was against repeal they can still vote however they want, right?

So how do we turn this decision into the republicans worst nightmare? How do we start leaning on ISPs who serve up hate speech in the form of faux news or breitbart?
12-14-2017 , 02:32 PM
So is this gonna get tied up in the courts? If so, possibly long enough for dems to win big in 2018?

With broadband now classified as a Title I communication service, ISPs are no longer considered a "common carrier" but now an "information provider". This change brings with it new responsibilities and obligations. In recent years there has an explosion in the popularity of hateful websites promoting white supremacy and holocaust denial. The most well known offenders are the dailystormer and 4chan's politics board. These sites are breeding grounds for extremists and are having a profound negative influence on the next generation of young Americans. Sending their message through your networks is now as obscene and unthinkable as delivering a national socialist TV channel along with the food network and MTV. I understand that such changes will require time to organize and execute. However in the mean time we will be contacting your top advertising customers and will urge them to also express their desire to not do business with ISPs which promote hate.
work in progress

They can legally, but Congress could legitimately question why they ignored the overwhelming majority of people who were against the move. From a strictly optical standpoint it would look terrible, so they provided themselves the cover they will later claim to have had.

They are also required to have a public comment period.

Is there even ONE non-pos person serving in this administration? At all?

I hate these craven scumbags so much.

In theory it would allow more diversity of internet applications. You could change pricing to fit certain specialities, high latency/large data, low latency/low data, etc and use those charges to invest in infrastructure to provide for many different types of situations with the overall effect of it being more efficient. The only problem is if the ISP is a monopoly then they can arbitrarily charge internet companies and pocket the money without investing in infrastructure.

So with Disney buying fox and the death of NN how long until we just have one major media company with all the pipes and all the IP? Can't be too long.

So now what? What are our options if Google decides to start charging $.99 a search?

Google.ca

Pretty sure they can do that now, and it would be the death of Google if they did. But that's kinda why the content providers are so up in arms. The ISPs can charge THEM more or their content doesn't get out, but they can't easily pass those costs on to end users because end users will just seek out a cheaper (free) option.

Not really what this is about.

A better hypothetical would be what if Comcast decides to charge you $.99 per search to use Google, while allowing you to use COMCASTSEARCH for $.10 per search.

Bye bye internet porn.

Maybe that will get the 4chan neckbeards off the MAGA train?

GG netflix for me at least. It was almost unwatchable before. I'd say it's a good thing that I have kodi, but I'm sure those sites will be worse.

That is far from the worse case scenario.
