ironic that the most homophobic/misogynistic/racist people i've met in life were white, not latino or black

I call out racists because it seems like the right thing to do. Because it's probably correct in comparison to sitting silently, giving tacit agreement.

Scoring points is fine if you're backed up by facts and logic and I wasn't in that contest.

Does anyone ever take you up on that challenge? I want to but I'm not sure we have much to argue about.

Oh, lol, maybe I need to retool that joke.

The point isn't some challenge, the point is they can go to Unchained and really say what they feel.

Vhawk,

Do you think if a black or latino person started making homophobic and misogynist posts on this board that they wouldn't get stongly condemned?

Man, it's almost like you can't group millions of people together into one tiny behavioral box based on their skin color. I'm pretty sure there's a word for that.

Unless they are Trump voters, they are of course a monolith who all perfectly fit one stereotype.

I'm not sure where people have been arguing that. But it would be different from the statements I was judging, because people are judging Trump voters based on an action and not their skin color.

I for one will say that Trump voters had different motivations and reasoning for voting the way they did, and I will go even farther to say that many of them are in fact good people.

One thing we can do right now is act and try to help win this one Senate seat in Louisiana. Every seat counts right now.

The fight against fake news begins at home. We all need to start being more critical of the articles we click on, share, and the facts we believe because there is obviously a lot of bull**** going around on both the right and the left. Start with your own facebook and twitter feeds--we have to start counter-checking articles, being more skeptical even if the news item would benefit us, and simply being more critical and not taking anything a media outlet says as fact unless there are some corroborating sources out there. I'm gonna take it upon myself to be much more vigilant against fake news (I've been burned a couple times this election season to be sure) and I hope you all will do the same.

Edit: Evidence is great. Photos are good, video is even better. The more evidence we have to support a news article, the more credible it becomes--but even then we have to remember that there can be particular facts in the article that are not true or exaggerated.

I'm reminded of the story from six months ago or whatever that 60% of social media links are shared without being read. People just share the headlines. That is so weird to me, like will anyone ITT admit to having done this? Not looking to attack people, just curious.

If Zuckerberg had any balls, Facebook would do something about this. I honestly think the best solution would be to be like "yep, cool, shared that ****" and then just not share it, or only show it to a small number of people. There'd probably be a ****storm if people found out they were doing it though.

Not that you don't know this, of course. Just that effectively hellbanning people's Likes and Shares etc is damaging to their bottom line.

Fair enough. But imagine it from our end. It's like pulling teeth to teach you unambiguous mathematical facts (2/3>1/3) children (and according to you rats) often figure out on their own. Expecting us to teach you about racism and politics seems like a really really tall order.

Probably? Not really the point though.

we know what your "point" was- it was a bad one.

I do this all the time. Take the Onion for example. Usually 90% of the humor is in the headline. The article just beats the joke to death and isn't typically funny beyond the headline.

I'll do the same with real news. For example, if I see an article about some crazy hippie in Oregon, "Local man protests acid rain by drinking gallons on rain water in street", I might share it with my friend in Portland without really expecting that either of us read the article.

I don't think it's facebooks fault a lot of these fake links used to be chain emails and nobody was talking about regulating email forwards back in the day

The Democratic party is going to be fine. The party and voters voted for a candidate that is legitimately hated by more than half of the population and had no big group of die hard support. When the presidential candidate is **** all the other dems down the ballot are also going to do bad because less people are going to come out to vote. This is entirely Clinton's fault and she should be blamed for this.

Anyone know how to reach out to the voters for the DNC chair to tell them who you would like to see them support?
