I don't want Civil War 2. What I actually want is the fewest people tortured, imprisoned, and murdered - regardless of whether they are rich, white, Christian, and American, but also including those people. Are rich white Christian Americans really afraid of being murdered though or of losing privilege?
As far as the civility/incivility debate goes the twitter thread that mentioned the white lady who called the cops on the kid selling water made a good point. That lady was not seen as the same class as the rich liberals, but the rich conservatives are of that class. It's ok to be uncivil to her, but not to SHS. Especially not in a nice restaurant. Scenes are only made at the appropriate times and places and by and toward appropriate people. Trolley made the point about manners being a class indicator and that was well made too. Without the proper signals of deference and respect, interactions with others are threatening. Lower class people live with that threat all the time. The incivility is not really a threat of violence or Civil War 2.0, but it's scary because it is a failure of the expected deference which implies not only that there will be no violence, but that the ruling class can **** on whoever they want and expect no more than a polite complaint and only then in the proper time and place.
