Meh, any exchanges with him turn into giant AIDS-fests where the same tired old arguments are raised and debunked again and again. The thread turns unreadable for several pages until Lestat decides to take his ball and go home for the day. He's a poor man's ikestoys.

Would love to see Trump flip to the Dems.

It'd be like the type of move you see in professional wrestling when a wrestler turns heel on his friends.

The term you're looking for is "face turn".

In the eyes of the GOP, he would be a heel.

To us of course, flipping to the dems would be a face turn.

Haven't watched pro wrestling since the attitude era.

Quote:
Former vice president Joe Biden returned to national politics Tuesday during an afternoon rally in Alabama for Democratic Senate nominee Doug Jones, and his speech was a striking departure from his party’s current tone.

As Jones smiled from across the podium, Biden treated the crowd of about 1,000 people to a riff on the Senate’s glory days — days when the party included segregationists.

“I’ve been around so long, I worked with James Eastland,” said Biden, referring to a segregationist senator from Mississippi. “Even in the days when I got there, the Democratic Party still had seven or eight old-fashioned Democratic segregationists. You’d get up and you’d argue like the devil with them. Then you’d go down and have lunch or dinner together. The political system worked. We were divided on issues, but the political system worked.”

Quote:
For Democrats, one of the most important races for governor next year is taking shape in Illinois. Bruce Rauner, the state’s venture-capitalist-turned-governor,*is a union-busting, Scott Walker wannabe whose approval ratings have been wrecked by his obsession with spending cuts and his*failure to pass a budget for more than two years. Rauner is perhaps the*most vulnerable Republican governor running for reelection in 2018—in one of the biggest and bluest states.

But Rauner isn’t the only thing standing in the way of a liberal victory in Illinois. Six months before Democrats have even held their primary, party leaders have already*lined up*behind a venture capitalist of their own: J.B. Pritzker, an heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune who, along with his wife, contributed nearly $20 million to support Hillary Clinton last year.

....

Like Trump, Pritzker has also used the tax code to his own advantage, buying a historic Gold Coast mansion next door to his own, letting it fall into disrepair, then arguing that it was “uninhabitable”—a move that saved him $230,000 in property taxes. And like Trump, he is trailed by scandal. In 2008, at a time when then–Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was under federal investigation for soliciting bribes, Pritzker was caught on tape urging Blagojevich to appoint him to political office. Four days after Pritzker and his wife donated $100,000 to Blagojevich’s 2006 reelection bid, the governor announced a $1 million grant for a Holocaust museum that Pritzker was raising money to build.

But it’s the size of Pritzker’s wallet, not the strength of his ideas, that has endeared him to party leaders

Bernie doesn't want to hear this but segregationists can be patriotic too. It's true! But he doesn't want to hear it.

No chance. Name recognition too strong. Feinstein does a good job of getting herself in the news for super obvious liberal policies that everyone would support (e.g., leading bump stock banning, I've seen previous quotes of her's about abortion [which any democrat would agree with] that have been reposted to Facebook, etc.). To really understand how god awful she is, would take a few minutes of reading, research, or listening with an open mind to overcome the name recognition and the positive associations with her publicity. That's just not going to happen for enough people.

I'll give you 4 for sure. 1, I guess. 2--I'd be surprised if even 40% of Dems liked the war on drugs at this point. The support for 3 has got to be like 10%.

Re: The Tragic Death of the Democratic Party

I wouldn't want the prison pop to drop more than 75%, barring dramatic change in the crime rate. I guess the question is whether the remaining 25% is "a lot".

Re: The Tragic Death of the Democratic Party

No one says "I like a lot of people in prison", they just put a lot of people there.

40% is a lot. It's definitely enough to keep people like Feinstein winning elections. Hopefully California can do better, but we'll see. Imagine a world where 90% of Republicans want these things and 40% of Democrats do. It doesn't take much imagination.

Iron, cutting the prison population to 25% would still leave us the 45th most imprisoning nation, but that wouldn't be too horrible I guess.

Meh. Looking at "The sentencing project" website, about as many red as blue states have enacted various things to decrease prison populations - mandatory sentences, "ban-the-box" bills, etc. The AG is a screaming ****wit, but how much that's trickling down at the state level isn't clear.

I think we are past peak imprisoning, but that could change if there's a new wave of people losing their minds over drugs, crime, immigration - which there kinda is. We've got a loooooooong way to go though. When I said reducing prison populations to 25% would make us the 45th in imprisoning I should have put it as something like 140th in not imprisoning.

Texas Democratic Party apologizes for tweet blaming campus carry law for Texas Tech shooting

Spineless losers

(not sure if it was posted about here, but a TT freshman was arrested for drug possession or something and shot and killed an officer at the station he was brought to. From the article: "Texas is one of 10 states that allow guns on campus at public universities")
