No they weren't. They were apolitical. Most of the flower children have stayed liberal. Numerous studies have shown that once you identify strongly politically you tend to stay that way (obviously with exceptions).
Boomers were just too self-absorbed and entitled to start caring about politics until late in life.
This actually gives me a hope for the future, with the generation of millennials that Bernie woke up.
And Gen-X has also largely already identified politically by now. I will grant you that a lot of them weren't though, and I see them turning conservative on FB before my eyes. It's almost like if liberalism doesn't hit you before 35, conservatism creeps in.
