this tragic inability of democrats to realize you don't use an apostrophe to pluralize nazis is what's really going to sink us

Oddly enough I'm saying the same thing to them.

I still feel like all this infighting is part of the denial that we don't want to admit our collective crazy racist uncle is really crazy and racist, and our collective nice neighbor who we have barbecues with would vote for a potted plant if said plant hinted at tax cuts. Hillary is blah blah blah, that's why trump won, Bernie is bleh bleh bleh, that's why trump won. No. Trump won because of the corrosive acid flowing through the veins of this country.

Completely disagree with maulaga.

The Democratic Party needs to fully embrace Kaepernick et. al at this point. Really the Party needs to go even further. Flag-burning might be our last best hope at generating enough voter turnout to overcome the GOP gerrymandering and get back up to a respectable 40% of state legislatures.

Good point from Josh Marshall:

Another way to say it is that Republicans moving to the center now means becoming something close to right wing social democrats. It would mean, for example, saying that okay we are going to fix Obamacare by reworking the exchanges and actually doing something about prescription drug prices. And we will revive U.S. manufacturing by building on Obama’s advanced manufacturing institutes. We will fight opioid addiction with a dramatic increase in drug treatment spending. Moreover funding these programs means that we actually have to raise some taxes so we are going to introduce a VAT. In short, they pretty much have to go all the way to being Eisenhower Republicans.

Now, of course, that is what we want to happen because if the competition is to see which party is better at devising government programs that will help solve social and economic programs, it would make it possible for the Dems to move left. But I think that conservative parties only make this kind of Christian Democratic turn when the threat from the electoral left is already very strong—and we haven’t reached that point.
The right is allowed the political space to lurch ever right-ward because the left poses no threat or alternative.

VAT seems like an enormous, unnecessary burden on poor people and the middle class alike

also, **** fighting opioid addiction, i'm so sick of hearing about that ****

old white people are not victims, use your drugs responsibly or **** off

call me salty but i have a problem with the whole "tighten supply from doctors" mentality that has caused (car)fentanyl to come flooding in from china, and makes it so that when i break my hand into pieces and need surgery, these ****ing quacks look at me like i'm some kind of scheming addict when i want some ****ing pain meds

Bad take. Also I could maybe get behind a VAT on high-end luxuries only.

I don't see how it's anything but this. I've read so many long winded convoluted theories on why trump won. Even after someone was murdered by a nazi in America, my wife's racist uncle is still going off on FB about kneeling during the anthem, rehashing why antifa=just as bad as Nazi's arguments heard from pundits, and is crying about statues being torn down.

look i'm all about funding treatment with tax dollars but until we end the war on drugs, no solution is a serious one and all these ****boy politicians are just exploiting tragedy for political gain.

Seems like it and maybe it requires other balancing measures, but almost every country in the world uses it, including the Scandi countries. So, perhaps we are missing something if we just dismiss it as regressive.

Took me forever to find a new PCP, and when I did one of the things I had to sign was a notice that if I was currently under care for pain I had to stick with that provider as they would not take any new pain patients that were under care for chronic pain.

I really feel bad for people who have legitimate issues that require pain meds.

my only experience with a VAT was during the two visits i made to british columbia and quebec, and while i thought it was annoying, i'd be way more comfortable with it if i knew the money wasnt going to fund a bunch of bombs in the middle east and a bunch of welfare for the wealthiest among us.
08-19-2017 , 12:57 PM
instate a single payer healthcare program and a federal fund for infrastructure projects and i'll happily accept a VAT in america, not everything can be perfect but it would certainly be a huge step in the right direction

i still think that the poorest among us need some kind of relief tho, maybe there's a way to tie some sort of VAT rebate for people earning <$X per year or something to help lift the burden from the most vulnerable, similar to income tax refunds but maybe based on a figure for average consumption or something

This is a terrible take for many reasons, one of which is that many people were told by their doctors that the meds were safe and were hooked before they knew wtf was going on.

Yeah. My dad spent a couple years dying with ups and downs and lots of pain and meds and issues with meds and that's hardly unique. It's what many or most of us have to look forward to ourselves. And if someone just hurt their back and got addicted, I have nothing but sympathy unless they are some kind of proven *******.
08-20-2017 , 06:54 AM
it was mostly tongue in cheek because i want old white people to start dying the **** off already

i also want to use opiates recreationally on fishing trips and golf outings

Lol maybe Hillary can run again in 2020 and campaign on fulfilling the promise to lock herself up.

'Trump broke his promise. He didn't even try to have me locked up. I will reach across the aisle to get myself locked up from day 1!'

Just wait for the Democrats fundraising emails that Donald Trump's Afghanistan Surge: Summer 2017 Edition does not have nearly enough troops.
