Will TwoPlusTwo keep the politics threads? "Freezing" the forum to keep the threads in de facto archive form us much better than deleting them.

(When the UK's Labour party is legally found guilty of discriminating against Jews I might want to access the UK politics, AOC is amazing and the Brexit threads to go on a NBA Jam style dunking rampage).

Haven’t been paying attention, what the heck is going on? If they don’t like political stuff on 2+2 and axe the politics forums it’s probably going to spill out in the other topics 2+2 forums more and be a moderating nightmare

i) It's sad and pathetic that TwoPlusTwo can't handle a politics forum. I'm not sure wtf happened so this isn't a criticism aimed at anyone or any group in particular but from what I saw the forum was generally civilised, and despite the fact I have issues with a large chunk of the UK thread it was still one of the better places to post on the internet. I didn't see anything that merited such a drastic step so whether there was bull**** going on elsewhere or mods got overzealous this is sad.

ii) Part of the reason the forums was so good (OK, relatively good, let us not go crazy!) was the mods. So thanks to all of them who are I believe volunteers who had to deal with a bunch of bollocks and did an excellent job. In particular jman220 who was scrupulously fair and pleasure to deal with. Interacted less with the other mods but thanks to them too.

Last I heard this is their goal, politics will be discussed in any forum where the mods want to allow a politics thread but there won't be a dedicated politics forum.

That is precisely the reason it was created in the first place, but I guess the lesson needs to be re-learned.

This is sad, this forum kept me coming back years after I quit poker and any interest in it.

The next step is probably banning all political banning all political threads in other forums - after the bundy's and juan valdez's run to ATF to complain about them.

Thanks to the people starting the new forum. I usually don't participate but I browse everyday and have for a long time. I still can't believe this is even necessary.

P.S. I'm down to donate a little bit of money if hosting costs money.

Seems I missed some fun and or drama this weekend. I am guessing there are threads somewhere where whatever happened is discussed, which I guess some can link if they want, but I cannot pretend to be that concerned with the whole back story as this seemed to be the eventual ending sooner or later.

The narrow demographic of regs did not play particularly well with others, even if at times they were fun to play with, but I will say that they have extreme passion of their beliefs, and were willing to put the excessive amount of time to show that, and indeed that can fuel quite a bit of robust activity, even if nobody makes anything in the new site for a while, if ever. I do wish them luck with it, especially when the adrenaline period of whatever happened here wears off, and they cannot rely on their collective anger for the powers that be at 2+2 to unite them.

I applaud 2+2 management for providing a link to the new site, and I wish those on their new site (change the name - perhaps go with The Dunk Tank) all the best.

Come join in! The idea is for the entire politics form to now be off site, and this one gone away, not just a narrow slice of the old one. There might be some angry at Mat nuking the forum with no warning, but it is actually pretty amicable and more of a "let's build a community" feeling.
