I do. Apparently, this is a big problem and the Weinstein's of the world will be getting away with it for the foreseeable future. The only way to deter anyone is to come down hard on the people you do catch.

You are literally unable to see anything from a female perspective, and this is the root problem with harassment. You just have no f***ing idea how or what women think, and moreover, you clearly don't care to have one.

I hate to sound like a dick, but there has to be more to the story than this.

Re: Is there a sexual harassment conversation to be had?

I agree, but I don't remember, other than to say it wasn't a prolonged campaign of harassment and I don't think I'm forgetting anything much more egregious.

I'm beginning to see it was unwise to make myself an example, given that there are gaps in my story. Also because it's embarrassing.

Re: Is there a sexual harassment conversation to be had?

Ya, literally zero chance any big company would terminate employment over something that minor. I'm not certain that one off hand remark even meets any legal standard of harassment.

Just saw Iron's reply and LOL. You don't remember salient details of an episode which ruined your career? GTFO.

Usually a person who I meet has to tell me their name 5-6 times before I remember it.

maybe you were fired for being a terrible engineer then? generally engineers are required to keep track of important details and that seems to be an admitted problem for you.

Maybe, but certainly not officially. I would think their lawyer would rather fire me for poor performance rather than harassment.

Re: Is there a sexual harassment conversation to be had?

look man, I genuinely felt bad for you and that was kinda low blow.

but you gotta realize how your subsequent responses made you appear. like, you really cant remember details of a life changing event? and you think that is somehow comparable to not remember the name of some rando you just met?

seems theres a disconnect and maybe you should strongly think about how you view reality and interactions. maybe seek professional help and examine your interactions and your reality with someone qualified when they are still fresh in your mind.

The disproportionate lack of empathy towards the Irons of the world is definitely a problem and 100% leads to even more sexual harassment.

Stop all the ****ing cynicism, it's not helping. All the questioning and disbelief in his story is exactly how people try to pick apart women when they share their experiences.

Yep women also start to question themselves when no one is willing to believe their story.

With online dating, school, church, meetups, shared friends, there are more than enough non-work venues for finding dates. But let's say someone is convinced that a person at work is the one for them. Is there a non-creepy, non-harassing way to proceed?

for some people, at some places of work, certainly. but, generally, if you gotta ask about yourself, then its proly not for you.

if 'the one for you' coworker is someone you actually know and talk to and get along with, asking if they want to get a drink after work or w/e is fine (obv 'drink after work' isn't necessarily a date). if drink after work goes well, ask her to dinner at the weekend (which obviously is a date). whether she says yes or no, no sane person would consider this progression of events wrong or harassment. there are plenty of variations on this for people who are socially competent.

if 'the one for you' coworker is someone you don't know at all, but just lust after from across the office because she's omg hot, and if you're kind of ham-fisted with social interactions, danger! you're about to **** up! better to not say anything than wander up to an almost-stranger during coffee break and say 'uhhhhhh I just have to say uhhh, you look really good in that skirt uhh, you're really beautiful, how about we do something sometime haha?' if you do that, don't be surprised when HR comes calling.

Engineers are a different breed. While there are some things that we have very good memory recall with social graces are not one of them.
