No wonder he's still taking tons of jobs.

How did Freeman get $400+ million? That‘s like Jay-Z money.

In other news: Weinstein about to be arrested.

He's been in a whole bunch of hit movies.

i've never been as fond of Freeman as the rest of the world seemed to be, most of his acting post-2000 has been just a caricature of himself.

also last month he was having dinner with Mohamed bin Salman at Rupert Murdoch's house as part of the disgusting 'we're nice guys now!' Saudi PR tour, so not particularly surprised to discover he's a pos

Didn't Freeman sleep with his daughter's adopted daughter who was murdered by her angry boyfriend when she told him? That's Woody Allen level ****.

I count ~45 movies(*) from 1988-2010 when his divorce was finalized. Before that he was doing mostly TV. I doubt he was pulling 10mio./movie. Not all of them were hits. That list includes a bunch of supporting roles. He must have spent some money over the years. He didn't just hand over 100% of this net worth to his ex-wife.
He must have done well with his investemnts I suppose.

(*) He also did some voice and tv work.

A reporter investigated George Takei to see if he fit in with the #MeToo perpetrators. She couldn't find any other instance of anyone complaining about Takei's behavior and the one incident that happened seems like it could be a case of misunderstanding. Toxicologists said it was very unlikely that Takei drugged the young man, more than likely he got dizzy from standing up while intoxicated.

What's wrong with that?

Doesn't someone being popular (personally) with women suggest that he's less likely to be a creep?

People once thought Cosby was popular with women.

Come on man. That is just the male equivalent of slut-shaming. Because someone is promiscuous therefore they are an abuser? gtfo

I'd hate to see Clint here. He has a good rep afaik, people rave about how nice it is working on his sets, he still works with some exes, but who knows? Sandra Locke did accuse him of some kind of abuse a long time ago.

I mean, at this point it seems pretty reasonable to assume that there's a good chance any rich and/or powerful man is an abuser. And even a good amount of not so rich and powerful ones are too.

There are loads of rapey people. I highly doubt that becoming a rich and powerful has any bearing on the odds of you being a rapey person. It just changes the narrative and your odds of going to jail.

I don't know, it seems likely that power changes the dynamics of relationships and the number and kinds of opportunities that "rapey" people might have to exercise that tendency as well.
05-27-2018 , 01:45 AM
Being rich and powerful generally makes women more likely to be willing to be around a man she doesn't know very well, leading to a much greater opportunity for bad behavior by such men.

You are both underestimating how easy being rapey is. Do you find that you, as not-rich not-famous people, are constantly dealing with women who run away in fear if you say "hi"?

I will grant that it might possibly make raping women who are more likely to get in the news for being raped to be raped easier. I'm sure, if you want to be rapey, that you can easily find your cohort of victims.

Being rich and powerful generally makes men more willing to go up and say "hi" to women, because they are less worried about said women running away in fear.

Sexual abuse is primarily an abuse of power.

So yes. Being powerful gives more opportunity for sexual abuse.

Exactly, not to mention that powerful people have much more opportunity to groom victims with smaller injustices "compensated" (for lack of a better term) by little rewards that keeps them around.
05-27-2018 , 11:32 AM
Powerful people also can develop a sense of entitlement.
05-27-2018 , 11:36 AM
TIL that rich people are abusers wtf
