The Russian and Syrian denials are not even good. They contradict one another. But people still swallow it.

The whole point is just to throw sh*t on the wall and see what sticks, not to craft any kind of alternative truth. It makes them look silly but they're banking on there being enough people are inclined to disbelieve the truth for various reasons.

Just curious whataboutism, but would it surprise you to find out that the US has carried out tens of thousands of airstrikes in Syria in the last couple years killing thousands of civilians?

This seems to be not kosher international policy, but if it's really Assad's fault the only violence we should do in response is assassinate Assad. And if it's Putin's, then assassinate Putin. If someone seeks revenge on Trump, so be it.

Those are literally the only class of people we are not allowed to kill.

Straight from a horribly written comic book, Russia has identified the real villain behind the chemical attack:

My sources have obtained a copy of internal documents from Downing Street showing this to be true:

Spoiler:

Step 1: Stage a chemical attack on Syria.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit.

do people REALLY believe Assad is a complete dumb ass with a death wish?

Why would he ever use his chemical weapons knowing the whole world is watching & waiting for him to mess up so that we can topple his regime and take him out?

I also like how they are still rinsing the children's corpses off and they already know which stockpile it came from etc.

Use your brains.

Give me one good, rational reason that Assad or his allies would use chemical weapons in 2018 knowing theres a bunch of "Syrians" running into the fray with smart phones trying to capture every single horrific image and video?

I like how they have time to whip out their cell phones and record little kids choking on their spit...totally makes sense.

I guess Assad and Putin were just bored? time to provoke their own demise again?

I'm pretty sure Assad has used chemical weapons many times before without seeing his regime toppled. If he hasn't faced consequences why would he think this time is any different?

what usefulness did this chemical attack provide for him? what's his motivation?

according to you....its because he got away with it before, he just wants to tempt fate again?

why would you assume that the assad regime operates as a rational actor

this is like those cia reports that assumed saddam wouldn't invade kuwait in 1990 cos it was irrational to do so

Instill fear in his enemies.

Also, as anyone with experience in the real world will tell you, sometimes people do things that aren't good for them long term.

I'm not familiar with the situation enough to comment but you saying "he wouldn't do it because the world is watching and will topple his regime and take him out" doesn't make sense when he has already done it and none of that has happened. Maybe there are other reasons why he wouldn't do it but that one just seems stupid

The OPCW will start work in Douma tomorrow. Meanwhile the Kremlin goons have pre-emptively rejected the OPCW's findings over the Salisbury attack. The OPCW agreed with the British government. The Kremlin goons insist it's all a conspiracy against Comrade Stalin, sorry, I mean whatsisname.... erm... Putin.

He's a client of Russia and their ally Iran, who will do anything to ensure he doesn't lose the civil war, and there's no credible rival authority to replace him, so he can basically do what he likes, as long as it's what Putin wants.

yet none of this could possibly be true for the other big actors....???

all of the irrational crap you guys claim Assad is capable of...I can apply that same logic to the US, Russia, Isreal, Britain.

that explanation is simply lazy and not good enough. F-

I want a REAL viable explanation for why Assad would use his chemical weapons on such a stupid target KNOWING full and well that theres a bunch of "Syrians" waiting to run in and capture video of children choking on their own mucous.

He may of gotten away with using these weapons decades ago but Assad is NOT A STUPID GUY. I know some(ok alot) of you just started following world politics after the last US presidential election, but this guy is a smart dude. He managed to stay in power a lot longer than his contemporaries exactly because he's not a fkn idiot.

the west gave up Syria when they let Russia bomb the western friendly rebels as long as Russia also bombs isis

Russia's claim that Britian staged a chemical attak so they have reason to invade is idiotic

If there is any military response it will be something like bombing an empty airstrip.

He's a client of Russia and their ally Iran, who will do anything to ensure he doesn't lose the civil war, as has already been explained. So, no penalty. He has used gas weapons multiple times to save trouble and expedite surrender and, with the blessing of useful idiots in the West like yourself, he'll probably do it again. And you and all your kind will be culpable.

The last attack was five years ago.

So far, one week out, the consequences of the chemical attack for Assad have been that rebel opposition fled Douma (good for Assad) and Donald Trump gave him a mean nickname on Twitter (bad for Assad). It's super close, but imho whatever mystery person ordered the chemical attack, on balance, did Assad a favor.

Your whataboutism is especially awkward here, but yes all of those nations are capable of irrational actions.
