Suspected Chemical Attack In Syria Suspected Chemical Attack In Syria

04-08-2018 , 07:10 AM
I guess the situation is still developing. Reports are varying from 40 to 160 dead, and up to 500 injured. The US State Department has already made an announcement condemning the attack as a CW incident, with Russia as the responsible party. They seem to have solid intel after just a short (<24 hour?) period. Assad is denying.

Will Trump's response be similar to the last one, or less/more "severe"? Could this be related to his intention to pull out of Syria (despite objections from advisors)? It's always a wonder what formula he uses for foreign policy decisions he knows nothing about, especially when he defies everyone around him.

Dozens killed in apparent chemical weapons attack on civilians in eastern Ghouta - Washington Post
BEIRUT — Syrian doctors and rescue workers said Sunday that scores of people had died in an apparent chemical attack on a besieged enclave near Damascus, as government forces escalated their offensive to recapture one of the last rebel strongholds near the capital.

At least 40 people were killed in the attack in Douma in eastern Ghouta, about 12 miles from Damascus, according to the Syrian-American Medical Society (SAMS), a Washington-based nonprofit that supports health facilities in the area.

The State Department said it was monitoring mass casualty reports, describing them as “horrifying” and urging “an immediate response from the international community.”

The Syrian government and its allies “must be held accountable and any further attacks prevented immediately,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement. She said Russia, the Syrian government’s main backer, was ultimately responsible for the attacks.

I don't know, its not that simple. What exactly should the west try to accomplish in Syria?

People forget, but no fly zone worked pretty well in Iraq until we decided to do another ground invasion. It also worked pretty well in Bosnia to contain the carnage although probably not as well as hoped.

So let's do that... no fly zone. Yes, I am saying bomb the **** out of Syria and completely wipe out Syrian air force and air defenses.

Is the chance someone else did it above 1%?

Certainly not. It's Putin trying to destroy the world!

USA support terrorist rebels in Syria who are suffering defeat in their attempts to overtake legit Siryan government which doesn't want to obey USA will what frustrates you.
It becomes kinda boring, everytime USA need to escalate situation in a region it arranges chemical weapon provocation.

"Open area immediately for medical help"

Like it's possible to close any area when USA needs to get there unless you have nuclear weapon.

Syrian American Medical Society - Washington based non-profit group. Bulls*it.
Read - "civilian" organization which is vital to support all propaganda and provocations against Syrian government you want to overtake.

And yes random pictures of wounded children as a standard American proof.
But who need any proof? You already know right?

Russia tho.

Lol. Bravo @ "legit Syrian government." Oh yeah, the Assad regime is too legit to quit imo. Uncontested one party rule for 50 years, with a father and son pair as the only leaders during all that time: textbook democracy.

Just curious, how many reports from how many different countries and organizations - with video, photo, and testimonial evidence, establishing a consistent pattern of behavior over a span of years - will it take for you to not to consider it propaganda?

Its a long conversation

But when you see small country lying in ruins its a legit sign of american generous help to guys fighting for good cause.

Depends on what you mean by "someone else."

The chance that it was someone in the Syrian government or working with the Syrian government is greater than 99/100, imo. It's possible it was someone lower in rank acting on his own, though.

Or an accident they can't admit because it would also be admitting that they have those weapons. Then of course there is the theory that the rebels had more incentive to do this to themselves then the other side did . Americans find that hard to believe because it is inconceivable to us to kill our own children for such ends. I'm sure that such a theory is a big underdog. But unless there are logistical reasons that make it impossible, I would think it is over 1%.

Accidentally dropping a chemical weapon on your enemy isn’t like dropping a can of pickles.

The false flag idea could be 1% probable though.

There's no evidence that the rebels have chemical weapons, but if they did, why would they only use them on their own people?

Also, since the past chemical attacks haven't really swayed global action in Syria at all, I doubt they would think "Third time's the charm, let's kill some more of our own kids!"

Not that it's impossible, but it's not really worth considering as a possibility, imo.

Edit: Actually I think some rebel group or maybe ISIS in Syria had used mustard gas a few years ago, but no rebel groups had sarin that I've heard of.

Could've been a 400 lb guy in his bed not russia that hacked us!

Could've been the rebels not the syrians that gassed people!

why does this crap keep happening ffs. It gets immediately deflected to "could be somebody else" despite all the other god damn times it was them previously.

Because it's straight out of the Russian playbook used by Putin, Assad, and Trump. If it's good for me and my character, I did it. If it's bad, someone else did it...taken to the extreme.

It's like this international authoritarian men's club where the rest of the rational people (and facts, and science, and stats) aren't invited.
