Hollywood are so tilted by Trump winning the election that they're pumping tens of millions into a movie about John Hesp getting 4th in the wsop so they can use his line in all the promotion:

"I am to poker what Donald Trump is to politics - an amateur,"

Chortle.

Hookworm, usually associated with extreme poverty, is back

Quote:
More than one in three people sampled in a low-income area of Alabama tested positive for traces of hookworm, a gastrointestinal parasite that was thought to have been eradicated from the US decades ago.

Right-wing cultural references are uniformly terrible, take #24259:

Only thing missing here is a misapplied reference to Harry Potter, the only book with cultural cachet that can be referenced. Something like we call General Kelly Snape, because he tried to slip potions into Dumbledore's drinks to make like him too.

White House use to be cool before Gen. Kelly came along and gentrified the place with hipster artisnal donut shoppes and avocado toast cafes.

Time to check in on how things are going over at Verrit:

800 million well spent.

800 million?!?! LOOOOOL
09-05-2017 , 03:17 PM
Lol. Great job. Although with their authentication codes they are only going to be able to verify 10,000,000 facts. Not very future proof for a site that I assume will be around forever.

I do some work in the fund space, and $800 million seems like an impossibly high number just to facilitate a bunch of mocking memes.
09-05-2017 , 05:46 PM
I did the leg work and I believe the $800 million number started from a joke tweet by cd_hooks on Twitter. It's still at least 1 dollar. Which is too many dollars.

Also everyone inexplicable bought Daou's line that verrit got DDOSed, but uh, consider the alternative, that Daou is a ****ing moron and didn't buy enough capacity for a retweet by Clinton.

People bought that? It was clearly a thou dost protest too much situation when, rather than just riding with the press release, they made a bunch of social media posts linking to articals explaining that they did get attacked.

I can't believe any site with this kind of advertising (I guess?) would forget to host on servers that can respond to demand increases.

Hope it wasn't hosted on somebody's gaming computer.

I'm still trying to figure out what Verrit is and how it works. Is it just a quote/link aggregator for VERIFIED TRUE FACTS?

A**hole Test

I think a reasonable test of whether someone is an ******* without any hope of improvement is if you sit them down and explain that:

1) People without the legal right to live and work in this country often bring their kids here with them.

2) Those kids are often quite young when they arrive. You know, babies.

3) Such kids also are undocumented.

4) In many cases they grow up not or barely speaking the language of their home countries, depending on their age and particular circumstances.

5) Given whole lack of documentation thing, most of these kids have never been to the country that their parents came from and don't know any of the family, if any, that are still there.

6) Upon becoming adults, their work and educational opportunities are complicated and limited.

If the person's response is, "they're illegal, deport them," then you know you've found an *******.

Ive used it a few times. When you add in our drug addictions and backing of messed up leaders which are a big part of the root cause of illegal immigration. Ugg...there are some cold mofos out there.

A fascinating mini-story about Fremont, CA's war against route-recommending apps

Problem: Waze and the like send savage commuters into the pristine city streets of Fremont to get around traffic jams!

Quote:
The traffic being diverted off clogged highways during the morning and evening commutes became so insufferable in Fremont that city leaders decided about a year ago to try to outwit the apps. The city of about 230,000 people started to ban turns at several key intersections at certain times along the shortcuts being touted by Waze and other mapping services.

Before police began handing out tickets, Fremont even set up electronic signs blinking this admonishment: “Don’t Trust Your Apps.”
The perfect plan! No potential unforeseen consequences here!

Quote:
The countermeasures turned the shortcuts into slower routes, no longer recommended as bypasses around traffic. But the apps have since found other shortcuts, including some that direct drivers down even smaller side streets that weren’t designed to accommodate so many cars. That’s frustrating some residents.

If you're a black employee and you work hourly with clients, is it legal if your employer learns your client is racist and you lose said client for this reason alone, thereby reducing your income?
