I can't say the new Twin Peaks was as good as S1 and the movie, but Lynch is still a master.
09-03-2017 , 10:39 PM
This whole Verritt thing is like when someone's already managed to persuade you that you were wrong, but they want to keep rubbing it in and won't shut up going over and over and over how you ****ed up. Like, I get it, Clinton surrounded herself with clueless, incompetent, careerist buffoons, they don't need to set up wearecluelessincompetentcareeristbuffoonsgiveusmon ey.grift.com to convince me. I'm sold already, stop, please.

Daou has to be lying about the investment there, right? Where is the $800M coming from?

twin peaks: the return is a masterpiece

It's a master piece because it is a Lynch work of art. I just didn't feel connected to some of the characters like the original run. Like a few just seemed to be there for nostalgia.
Spoiler:
Audrey Horne
as an example.

Looking forward to reading Louise Mensch's articles on Veritt

$800M sounds absurd. Anyone surprised by whatever the hell Verritt is is a sucker. I expect the ardent center will be fully on board in theory anyway. In practice this venture will flop way harder than Juicero.

Verritt claims to have been vicitimized by a DOS attack immediately after the HRC endorsement.

I think this is what social scientists call a "polite fiction." Everyone knows that the Trumpers are straight bluffing and will never ever stop watching Monday Night Football even if Colin Kaepernick personally flies over to Kenosha, Wisconsin and impregnates their daughters. Everyone knows the Browns aren't going to ****can players who are near-NFL caliber athletes just because they don't want to stand for some pointless flag waving thing. The Cleveland PD can put forward a totally feckless protest and give awval, et. al an online talking point (the NFL is gonna feel the pressure!). Maybe your uncle will angrily post on facebook about how he's done totally watching the 49ers unless they're playing in a game with serious post-season implications.

This way no one has to feel embarrassed when Kaepernick & Co. continue doing their thing and the NFL doesn't try to stop them and yet the Trumpers continue to watch the NFL.

idk why my postings make it seem like Kenosha, WI is a hotbed of Trumperism. They probably voted for Hillary, tbh.

Copyright lawyers, is this one weird mistake the actual reason that zombie movies basically exist?

https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/2/16...kristain-watch

In other words, would the concept of a zombie have been copyrightable as the article claims?

Maybe switch your references to Point Place, WI. It still works but no actual people, living or dead, are offended.

been to Kenosha, I would have bet Trump, but obv still majority Republican. The Alpine Valley shows are straight up cops raiding campgrounds for marijuana fines.

New Royal Adelaide Hospital opens today. Has a bunch of cool features like robotic carts that deliver meals to patients on order. Due to the fact that it's part of the public health system though, it's mostly just death panels rather than actual care.

No. Just the movie itself. The concept of zombies is from Haitian folklore, and Lovecraft's Reanimator was written decades before, and I'm sure some dudes I've never heard of wrote about the concept even earlier. It's a very weird article to write because there really was a mistake and it is why it's a common "movie that people in a movie watch", but you can't sue over the idea of the vengeful undead, you can only sue over the expression of an idea(i.e. you can't copyright a premise or setting, but can copyright plot, characters, etc).

Night of the Living Dead's "zombie origin" isn't even the cliche one now, most of them have some scientific gobbledygook about a virus. But we don't see those films suing each other.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sc%C3%A8nes_%C3%A0_faire

Is a related concept.

Yeah, the article is bunk, zombie movie "idea" is not copyrightable. Even if there were no prior zombies, likely still not copyrightable. If, say, you made the first book or movie with a werewolf, and then another werewolf movie was made, would likely not be found to infringe (assuming movies more or less different in other respects). Copyright protects expression, not ideas. There is a point at which ideas and expression blurr, like if the movie contained 50% similar story, with some of the same plot twists, but otherwise it's not a case one would be too happy about.

In related news, Judge Poser retired on Friday. Bummer that Trump gets to replace him, as in nominate someone for his seat. Everyone has their "hot take" on Posner, but the fact is he was a judge who could fairly be called a philosopher. And while he was a genius, even though I have no real interest in "law and economics", maybe the most remarkable thing about him was his productivity in doing intellectual work. I'm pretty sure he would rush home on Fridays after a 12 hour day of judging eager to work on his latest book or law review article.

From the Harvard admit thing. Pretty devious of Harvard to brainwash its students before they even start college.

On the other hand, they are still enrolling more Protestants than atheists, 15.9% and 15.8% respectively.

Definitely sad. Like most Judges, didn't always agree with him, but I always respected that he truly believed what he was writing. I think we could actually do good taking a few lessons from his law & econ pagebook (just not adopt the entire book word for word though)

I always hated his punitive rule, fwiw. Not sure if you come across that much Simplicitus

So I'm free to make my own GI Joe or Power Rangers movies as long as the plots are different? O.o

I feel like even if I called it something different, a movie about spandex-clad martial arts teens using giant robots that combined into gianter robots would be a no no, regardless of plot differences.
