It's an empty threat. The cops think that by threatening to take their flags home and not show up, the Browns and the NFL are going to genuflect and beg for them to come back and make their players stand and salute the flag.

The more likely scenario is the NFL isn't going to go to war with their mostly black labor and they're going to assume fat dumb white America is too lazy or buzzed from opiates and alcohol to carry out their threat, change the channel from the sportsball they are addicted to gambling on, which is almost surely the far better bet.

I think the alt-right brigades call this virtue signaling, that is, empty gestures designed to demonstrate your own good character (e.g., you're a good patriot authoritarian in this case). Right wing America is virtue signaling over Kaep and threatening to not watch the NFL. The threat is empty and they don't care that much about Kaep and people kneeling through the anthem. NFL remains the safest bet in town, precisely because right wing America will never turn it off.

I'm not so sure what's so bad about martial law anymore. The military is way better than the police.

The story they're referring to is incredibly dumb (cliffs, some frat boy threw a banana peel into a tree, some POC saw it and assumed it was a lynching threat, university something something cracking down on politically incorrect fruit, obviously there are a lot of details left out), but if you google around you quickly find that there are only like four alt-right websites "reporting" on this story. There's literally nothing from any semi-reputable source about this.
