Trump has jettisoned some of the more controversial figures in his administration this summer. For instance, the firing of Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci after just 10 days earned the flamboyant aide the moniker “suicide bomber” in the West Wing for having taken down with him Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and press secretary Sean Spicer.
that's funny
More changes may be afoot under Kelly, who is continuing his personnel review and is said to be targeting aides without clear portfolios of responsibility.
uh oh, look out conway

Greenwald has a couple good columns lately

Yesterday: ****ting on the NYT's latest Bret Stephens clone hire for their opinion page, Bari Weiss, and the insanely narrow political band from center left to center right occupied by their "diverse" opinion staff

Today: Confirming what Greenwald wrote in 2015 about Charlie Hebdo and their anti-Muslim cartoons, #JeSuisCharlie only extended as far as it allowed people to bash Muslims and crossed the line when they turned their sights on flooded Texas

As he highlights, Piers Morgan then and now:

The rest of the right wing then and now:

Quote:
For the crime of mocking white Americans, vehement scorn for Charlie Hedbo was commonplace yesterday. “An evil, despicable cover,” opined National Review’s Tiana Lowe, who nonetheless added that “the losers at Charlie Hebdo have a God-given right to publish it.” Infowars’s Paul Joseph Watson, long a fan of Charlie Hebdo’s anti-Muslim cartoons and an advocate of the duty to republish their content, yesterday announced that, actually, one may hate and denounce their cartoons while still supporting their free speech rights: “The Charlie Hebdo cover is offensive & dumb, and I fully support their right to be as offensive & dumb as they like.”

The right-wing actor James Woods announced: “So much for ‘Je Suis Charlie,’ I guess,” calling the cartoonists “French traitors” in a hastag he added. National Review’s Byron York, showing a picture of the new cover, was similarly candid: “Today, we are not all Charlie Hebdo.” One popular tweet, from journalist Jason Howerton of the conservative Independent Journal Review — who previously mocked news outlets for not showing the full Charlie Hedbo anti-Islam cartoons — declared that one should not, after all, share Charlie Hebdo cartoons that one finds objectionable: “Was going to go off on Charlie Hebdo for that sick Texas cover. But then I realized that’s what they want. **** you. I’m not sharing it.”

It’s almost as if the glorification and praise for Charlie Hebdo that became morally mandatory in 2015 had nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with love of the anti-Islam content of Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons. This new rule that one must not only defend Charlie Hebdo’s free speech rights but also honor and praise their work seems to have disappeared rather instantly, violently even, as soon as their targets stopped being Muslims and began being white Americans. This person put it best:

Not sure the 2 covers are comparable.

The 2nd one attacks more than just white supremacists and is in fairly poor taste.

What in the hell. Is it really 113 in Noe Valley?
09-01-2017 , 06:12 PM
I don't think it was really 113. I see 103 in Noe Valley and 104 downtown for the highest temp ever recorded in SF.

Personally I'm glad people are shutting up about Houston already and talking about the real weather tragedy in the United States right now: WHY IS IT SO HOT IN SAN FRANCISCO TODAY (I post from my air-conditioned office)

The first cover wasn't controversial.

104 in SF isn't tragic, but still scary.
09-01-2017 , 06:23 PM
It wound up being even hotter today than forecasted and broke the city's all-time record (measured since 1874), previously held by June 14th 2000 (103 degrees). The air is gross here too, apparently smoke from wildfires is settling over the Bay Area for some reason.

That sucks. The huge fires in British Columbia blanketed Seattle in smoke for about two weeks while we were going through a major heat wave. I thought I was in LA.

Edit: The smoke was so thick it actually kept Seattle in the 95 degree range rather than record breaking temps that were forecasted.

Not wildfire, just the Russian consulate.

lol yeah, a coworker sent me that link

Black smoke seen pouring from Russian consulate that Trump ordered closed; inhabitants turn away firefighters, insist they're just having a nice little fire in 95 degree weather

Ya that was weird. Everybody was complaining about how hot it was and about the smoke. I was happy for a bit of smoke instead of dealing with 100+.

Why even escape? I always assume the guys with full facial tattoos are resigned to being lifers one way or another. Than again, maybe the breakout was just a ploy to add time to his sentence.

I give up. There is a NYT Oped titled "Maybe Colin Kapernick Isn't That Good" today.

Just ****ing sell it to Murdoch

Quote:
What seems to me more problematic than Kaepernick’s not having a job is the general unwillingness to consider that this situation might be justified on the merits, given Kaepernick’s current attributes, or lack thereof, as a quarterback, rather than assuming, as part of a kneejerk gospel of victimhood, that persecution must be the cause.
THE ****?
