I have issues with most of what Trump does. His tweeting is the least of it, honestly. But sure, it's not good. He's doing it to distract people and deflect and discredit and appeal to his base. He's good at it, his effective use of Twitter is one of the reasons he's president.

Okay, so medium aside, and sticking to this specific issue—discrediting the investigation into Russian interference, what would you say those actions indicate?

That Trump thinks that discrediting the investigation is good for him? Which, of course it is? The Mueller investigation is obviously bad for Trump and discrediting it is obviously good for Trump.

**** off, Comey.

But if there is no collusion as he claims wouldn’t it be good for him to let it play out?

Yeah I never get Republican’s “America has done it also, so no biggie” argument at all. Plenty of US backed puppets have been overthrown for being US puppets. So we aren’t making a bigger deal out of foreign collusion than other countries if we investigate and get rid of Trump for it.

me, an innocent person who doesn't commit crimes, posting on facebook: THE COPS ARE MAKING UP EVIDENCE ON ME

my friends and family: [intervention, followed by sending me to a mental hospital]

-----------------------------------------------------------

trump, a guy who has done shady **** his entire life, hired 3 russian agents for his political campaign and literally stumped every day reading wikileaks to crowds, all while acting suspiciously soft on putin: THE FBI IS MAKING UP EVIDENCE ON ME

republicans: abolish the fbi; this is a coup. trump 2020!

But the conclusions of Mueller's investigation aren't going to be a binary outcome, either 1) COLLUSION IN PEACH IMMEDIATELY or 2) Trump is solid, no collusion, also his penis is quite large.

Even if there was no illegal collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian spies there are surely going to be a bunch of damaging stuff that will come out and peripheral charges and convictions. We've already seen this. So by attacking the investigation Trump could frame the story around it positively to his base in a way that might turn out to be correct (NO COLLUSION) and discredit the damaging revelations (WITCH HUNT).

And you, by posting all sorts of stupidity about U.S. intervention in other elections, help diminish the significance of Russia’s actions, diminish support for corrective action, ie criminal indictments and impeachment, and discredit the people who are advancing those goals. So shut the **** up and can we get a ban for this nonsense already?

The only precedent you can think of resulted in the POTUS being forced to resign.

Do you think this supports your argument or ours?

That is the most blatant concern trolling ever

**** you, Comey

I've said all along that if Trump or members of his campaign participated in a conspiracy with the Russians to steal emails or commit other serious crimes then that would be an extremely serious matter. In fact, me saying that prompted Wookie to be all would you say that would be UNPRECEDENTED? And I said, no, Watergate seems like a worse election crime than anything Trump or his lackeys are likely to have done.

It is the world’s worst take and wholly meaningless in regards to what is or isn’t legal and is or isn’t acceptable within US borders and in regards to the US.

This is why properly treating Russia as a legitimate, war waging enemy, while also punishing those in America who participated to the fullest extent is what needs to happen.

If Trump was complicit in it and/or actually is a Russian puppet, sure. But I was bringing up the historical context in response to stuff like:

which is vastly overstating the seriousness of Russia's actions in a dangerously antagonistic way.

How is watergate worse? Both actions were done for illegally gained political information on their opponents, but one of them did it while working with a foreign adversary and promising them policy positions that would be against the American peoples interests.

Watergate is a lot simpler and easier to prove direct guilt, but what Trump likely did is way worse.

Didn't Kissinger torpedo promising peace plans in '68 that ended up extended the Vietnam war a few more years?

I have a relative who apparently had to work with Kissinger and this person gets visibly heated talking about him, hates him with unbridled passion.

Yep, and it also assumes that avoiding hypocrisy is paramount, even more important than responding correctly.

If North Korea nuked South Korea tomorrow, I swear there would be three people in here tomorrow arguing that the US shouldn't complain because, you know, Hiroshima.

A really incredible Overton window shift is that as recently as January 19th, 2016, people like Glenn Greenwald were very much into government transparency and especially outraged about any time the government mislead or lied to the American people. The President or his high level subordinates being caught saying something that wasn't true was cause for a serious investigation into how they got it wrong, whether it was intentional, and so forth.

Trump has consistently and constantly lied and been caught lying about the Russia stuff, to the level where he dictated a false statement for one of his co-conspirators(this, tbh, seems like obstruction?), and well, is it literally the worst thing an American President has ever done?

Because I think I can name something worse. And if it's not the worst thing ever, who is the real bad guy here?
