SCOTUS BOWL 2018 SCOTUS BOWL 2018

Now that Kennedy is retiring, who will be his replacement?
Will the Democrats effectively block any nomination until the new Congress is in session come January, or will Nancy and Chuck bow to whomever Trump and Mitch want, as they are both so very, very civil?

What's on the agenda to be revoked should Trump get another pick this year?
  • Gay Marriage?
  • Hell, all gay rights?
  • Roe v. Wade?
  • Due Process?

What can the Democrats really do? What do you see to be the most likely outcome?

Hahaha, when abortion becomes illegal we’ll be more backwards than the Irish.

I don't think Chuck and Nancy have any power to block this

I feel like this is a question best suited for Victor to answer but I'll give it a shot. The Democrats can't do anything. The most likely outcome is WAAF.

As for which "big" decisions could be reversed, I think Roe v. Wade is the one in the most danger.

Abortion is still a cornerstone issue on the right in a way that gay marriage isn't, really. Plus, from what I understand about SCOTUS dynamics, they don't like to revisit cases that were recently decided. So gay marriage *might* be safe, although I wouldn't fully count on it.

Might this be a rallying cry for progressives across the country?

gjge USA

Somewhere Awval is touching himself, but will end up wondering why his grandkids hate him even though he has an extra $50 a month to spend on them.

(No, they won't believe you when you pretend you were part of the #resistance)

They don't. R's dropped the nuke, will be approved in the fall, might even get 57 or 58 votes because of the democrats in red states running for re-election.

Roe Wade overturned in 19 somewhere unless they go slow for some reason. Think the "oh they recently decided" is completely dead now as courts are all political these days. That said idk if the anti gay stuff is going to be early on their lists of things or that they care to bother with it, it's not important as other things like making sure bakers don't have to bake cakes for libtards.

I'm down for California's secession. Oregon, Washington, come along if you want.

Or, ya know, Democrats can avoid nominating one of the most unpopular and disliked presidential candidates of all time.

The better way is to divide California into 5 states and take back Congress.

So this is all over right?

Democrats will only add someone to the court if they have all three bodies of the exec. Republicans can block them with either house/president.

So when RBG retires/dies she either isn’t replaced or replaced by a conservative?

It’s like s 95% that the country is ****ed up beyond repair.

House isn't involved. So you essentially need President + Senate to get a nomination through in today's environment.

All by a combined 100k votes in a country of 325 million people.

So will the dems block the new nominee until the election because "the american people need a say" or whatever excuse the repubs used last time?
06-27-2018 , 07:47 PM
The only way dems could do it is if they deny the Senate a quorum, and that only works if all 49 dems refuse to vote and John McCain can’t get back to the floor. Dems absolutely should do this, it almost certainly won’t work, and of course they won’t even try
