I think posters here may be underestimating the difference between believing in the innocence of someone who it would be beneficial to them if they were in fact innocent, and tolerating undeniable guilt. In other words I am saying that if someone can't hang their hat on some doubt of guilt a switch often turns in their mind. I personally can never remember a case where a supposedly respectable country admitted a specific torture/murder (except maybe of terrorists) and I am predicting greater repercussions than most of you are.
