Part of the risk of embracing gonzo journalism that relies on deceit is that it's totally unnecessary.
I know 2 different successful business owners who rely on off the books illegal labor and they want them deported .

Of course they do, it helps keeps wages down. Nobody is a bigger supporter of a hardline on immigration than those who employ undocumented laborers.

The world is full of sinners, we'll always find a way to justify why people deserve to be **** all over. In this case maybe they do deserve it but as I said, deceit that builds the collective anxieties of bad people doesn't seem like it does a genuine service.

For the powerful, the lobbyists, the elected -- OK fine, lie your face off to get them to let their freak flags fly and embarrass themselves. I think that really is in service of the leftist tradition and can be in the realm of good politics.

But embarrassing the hoi polloi via lies, even the racist troglodyte ones -- that's a slippery slope, ESPECIALLY because we're not really lacking ways to be righteously outraged about the truth, the empirical world, and their reaction to it.
It might be a slippery slope, but what if we've already fallen from the summit to the base?

Yup. I know several deplorables who are the same.

They secretly hate illegal immigrants but so long as they can pay them dick then it's cool with them. They'll say, "Oh they're the good ones though!" as a rationalization for their hypocrisy.

The spencer skit and the NRA skit were good. The rest were stupid. Cheney doesn’t really come off badly, just polite. The bachelorette one looks like she’s being taken advantage of and you feel bad for her. Even the local yokel mosque one, it is clear that the majority of them realize that it is a joke (watch the ones in the background, woman to the side, slouching blue shirt guy) you can see them laughing at various points, it was just 3 or 4 vocal racists who were saying ridiculous things.
07-25-2018 , 11:50 AM
read an article on the town hall. apparently a few ppl noticed it was a joke and pleaded with the racist screamers to stfu and stop feeding into it. but nope, the racists kept racisting.

makes it even better imo.

I'm only watching these as they get uploaded to youtube but this rivals any of his best Ali G segments:

I did not find the town hall funny haha, it was shocking. Not shocking because I did not know the depths of the deplorable base, but because I am, by design, not exposed to it much. I disagree with the assertion that the lies were designed to froth up the crowd to anger like throwing rocks at a chained dog, it was really more like walking in front of the chained dog slowly.

What is remarkable, as noted, and valuable as well is the threats that were openly levied against the hypothetical mosque, and even SBC (that he was lucky no guns were allowed)...To Dvaut's point, these people are unhinged and close to boiling. Yeah, it would be dangerous to poke that bear a lot for laffs but in this case, I think it is pretty important to note that the right has an actual USE for this powder keg and get a glimpse of just how explosive it is. Keeping flames away seems smart but lighting a candle to illuminate how short the fuse we are working with is may be worth it, even if ****ing frightening.

It was not funny. Not at all.

Skeptical of the empirical reality of that, but even more skeptical of the "taunt the rubes into racist anger to inform the woefully naive about social problems" ethic we're working ourselves into here. What a ****ing country. "I was on the fence when President Trump charged into the White House promising to build a 50 ft wall to keep out Mexicans but now that I've seen a few jabronis screaming about a camel on Main Street I'm starting to buy into our collective social rot" says someone, somewhere, and so we better...continue to wage elaborate theatrics to put these morons on display and from there we'll all become better citizens, somehow?

idk, not really seeing this. If we're just yuking at the rubes in the same way you might watch The Three Stooges but derive no larger social good from it, OK, fair enough. But the conceit here seems to be this is something akin to valuable journalism or deep social looking glass you can't get elsewhere.

Still think a more powerful example of utter deplorableness and accompanying social costs borne by them are all the genuine ills we can document, the sincere anomie you can spot in Deplorable America just by talking to them about actual things that happen in the world. They are hiding in plain sight. And so I'll reiterate I suspect many of you aren't grappling with the "we had to lie to generate this kind of response, and that's OK" ramifications coupled with the fact that to put a bunch of racist morons on display requires no lies at all.

Watch a Frank Lutz panel of Republicans. You definitely don't have to lie to these folks to get them to say totally insane things

bolded is bs. look at what the media is saying about these ppl. hell, look at what their political opposition is saying about them. democrats refuse to call them racist, and even attempt to cater to them. the media clings to "economic anxiety".

regardless, its not even about making a compelling political argument. its friggin entertainment. and if I gotta live in a country where these *******s get to make the decisions and drive it into the ground, I am damn happy to laugh at the pieces of sht.

Put me down as disagreeing with Dvaut for the first time I can remember in all the time I've been admiringly reading his posts.

Far far far too many in the media bend over backwards to find any excuse not to call Trump supporters precisely what they are. No group of people has ever been given more of the undeserved benefit of the doubt. This is, for obvious reasons, very dangerous.

Of course SBC isn't going to change any Trump supporters' minds, but I could see watching his show motivating some low/no info voters who stayed home in '16 to get to their polling places.

Obviously those people SHOULD be motivated already by the child-kidnapping and innumerable other horrors, but we are hardly in a position to be turning away motivating forces.

If you're not paying any attention and think the opposition are just misguided, economically-anxious, social conservatives, it's a lot easier to stay home. Everyone on our side should be making it crystal clear at every opportunity that we're up against actual nazis. SBC's show is quite valuable.

I would've expected to see green skinned aliens dancing the Macarena on top of flying unicorns before I saw some guy dressed up as a 15 y.o. Mexican teen and when asked if he had any weapons displayed the fake vagina he was wearing.

That's a hell of a thing, tyvm, SBC.

Roy Moore pedophile detector lol
07-30-2018 , 05:51 AM
Last night’s episode definitely the weakest.

The Roy Moore bit was disappointing to be honest.

Rap battle was the best part, especially the Pod Save America/liberal podcast dig.

Rap battle was funny. Great job trolling Roy Moore too. Just noticed that Israeli guys name is pronounced Iran.
07-30-2018 , 07:33 PM
The rap battle was momentarily creative, the rest of the episode was weak to me. I'm glad he made Roy Moore feel bad, I suppose. The overly PC liberal interview with Bone Crusher and Chip Limehouse was ham-handed. The quinceanera bit transcended well into the area that Dvaut was concerned about IMO and had no redeeming value except the vengeful joy of seeing some POS get ridiculed. I still see value from the town meeting and learning how angry the average angry racists are. I don't think the same value is there seeing how stupid the stupidest racists are. The answer is very stupid. Got it.
