I reckon the artist lady realised it was a prank and went along with it.

This has probably already been answered, but yes. The pro-military propaganda machine is so pervasive and successful in the US that one almost can't say anything slightly negative about them in polite company.

In impolite company you would seriously run the risk of getting into a fight. Almost everyone has at least some family who served, and there are tons of people who take it as an insult to their honor.

Just watching it now and lol the art lady's reactions. Talk about composure

Yeah this isn't near as good as Borat. Mostly because despite Borat the character being a horrible person with horrible beliefs, his childlike ignorance and lack of awareness made him likable in a weird way. None of these characters SBC plays are interesting at all. They're nothing more than cheap stereotypes.

fatkid, gtfo out my thread

I think I've seen all the segments from the first episode (the gun bit, the art bit, the Bernie bit and the Republican couple bit). It's pretty funny and definitely feels like Da Ali G Show 2018. The main problem is that the characters aren't as good as Ali G, Borat and Bruno. The four characters are basically generic liberal, generic conservative, alternative generic liberal (the ex-con) and alternative generic conservative (the Israeli commando). His original characters weren't so blatantly political and had more universal appeal than these characters that he tailored specifically for the political climate in the Trump era.

Its going to be hard going forward for anyone to look worse than Jason Spencer lol.

Some of these politicians have to be in on it.

I mean they know there's a camera there. People are being mic'd. There's a director there setting up the scene. They have to know something's up.
07-23-2018 , 01:49 AM
pretty sure they think hes on the training/interview/whatever show or whatever of whoever Sacha is acting as. They all have incentives of some kind (Spencer probably wanted to look like a bad ass anti terrorist willing to be trained)

here's joe walsh tweet

I was invited to a pro-Israel dinner that honored defenders of Israel. The producers said they needed to film a pre-interview that would air as a part of Israel’s 70th birthday celebration. #BoycottShowtime

The smallest carrots and theyll say and do anything

I'm growing suspicious that the Republican Party is attracting a bunch of proud exhibitionist sociopaths wherein we can explain their easy pliability to become unhinged morons on television due to the fact they are unhinged morons at all other times and contexts. That is to say, their unique features aren't the fact they embarrass themselves on camera but are in fact unhinged morons whether the cameras are rolling or not.

I just don’t get how these crazy people are winning elections. I mean I guess I absolutely do know why, but I like to be in denial that these people keep getting elected over and over again.

I don't think anyone thinks these guys become more credulous when the cameras aren't rolling.

That town hall should tell you why they are winning elections

Show is just ok imo. The best bits are really good, other parts kinda drag on.

I'm sorry you feel like this show paints people like you in an unfair light.

Two posts before mine. They aren't bad, they're valid theories:

Theory 1: they have some incentives to get on camera and look like insane racist idiots, maybe it's not quite sincere but they're trying to look like tough guys or appear a certain way
Theory 2: they're in on the joke

Could be. I don't dismiss them as obviously wrong.

But I have an alternate theory. My take: actually what makes these guys appear to be easily duped into sounding like insane, racist morons is that they are genuinely insane, racist morons. Others have wondered aloud how these people get elected, but I would argue that this is a feature of the modern GOP, not a bug. They are elected BECAUSE they are unhinged looney tunes, they are powerful guns rights lobbyists because they are unhinged loons. Not in spite of those things.

Once we allow for that to be true, then it all squares. One of the subtle but critical mainstream biases that inherently and deeply favors the GOP is that mainstream news publications and TV reporters and the like take it as prima facie true that these people are sane, that they have generally internalized some rational aprior information about the rule of law, gun safety, racial pluralism, whatever and so these ****ing zany freak shows are never asked simple but potentially deeply embarrassing questions. At least deeply embarrassing to the normal audience. As I said, this is what makes them appealing to the Deplorables.

SBC is effectively removing that bias and demonstrating that if you ask these clowns to pants themselves to fight the Muslims or arm a 2 year old, they'll gladly sign up for this. The MSM is biased in assuming right wing politicians and activists aren't insane morons and so don't treat them as such. The reason why these guys "sign up" for this sort of debasement isn't that they're in on the joke or because they're trying to look like tough guys, but because that's their genuine political ideology manifested and mainstream media either doesn't bother or think to ask.

I hadn’t seen those posts, but yeah Occam’s Razor suggests these guys are just morons all the live-long day.

I remember when The Daily Show was at its prime and they would still catch congresspeople off guard with the same kinds of antics. “But surely these savvy DC politicos have heard of the very famous The Daily Show and know they’re gonna get clowned on,” you might say, but no. It’s abubdantly clear that anyone can call themself a news network, set up cameras and mikes, and get these people to make asses of themselves.

Yeah, if anybody else was doing this show they would say it’s an Ali G rip off. I guess I didn’t like Borat and Bruno as much as everybody else. I thought some of the best Ali G interviews were better than anything in the movies and close toas good as the good skits on WIA.

This is how they got the Bachelor contestant to say that stuff: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood...rinne-olympios

I haven't seen that bit but I assume it's as artificial as the "kinder-guardians" bit where he got those Republicans to read off a teleprompter? The Ali G-style interviews are funny but the parts where he goes through that whole setup and you can tell it's fake are lame.
