Not watched it yet but Palin's comments about 'our brave troops' and so one were extremely cringy. Is that kind of nonsense standard rhetoric amongst American politicians?

I saw the NRA bit and compared to Ali G, Borat and Bruno it seems forced and artificial. Getting people to say silly things in front of a teleprompter isn't the most biting of satire. These people's actual political positions are crazy enough, no need to give them strawman positions and then make fun of those.
The legit funny bits were some of SBC's lines "He died doing something that I love" and the unscripted stuff that the guests said, like the line about marital rape and the congressman who didn't want to be on the record espousing one of his political beliefs.

Are the other segments better?
Not much better. He has a segment on man/dog love with antifa and bit about Corn Doggin’ in the shower w Newt Gingrich. It’s a lame show.
