Crippling sanctions tacked on to the sanctions that should have been enforced months ago.
Dangerous. If Russia becomes desperate they may retaliate by stopping gas supply to Europe. As long as Europe relies on Russian gas we can't do anything about Putin's land grab with the exception of putting a standing army on areas still controlled by NATO (in case of Baltic countries) or Ukraine (risky cause Ukraine is not in NATO).
Sactions mean recession in Europe and Russia. This will hurt hundreds of millions of people. It's just not worth it. If you want to try something you could target individuals. Freeze accounts of the oligarchs, revoke their visas, send diplomats home. I would even prefer sending literal assassins to make them afraid than making hundred of millions of people poorer.
With "crippling" sanctions you are targeting common people who can't do much about the situation anyway, it's not like they can vote the gang out. Realistically I think we need to work on alternative energy sources long term and supply from Middle East which we control short-term. Any policy that causes oil and gas prices to fall long term is going to help much than sanctions.
