I hear you.

250k is not rich. Not by a long shot. Donald Trump is rich....so is Steve Wynn. The ability to buy just about anything without a second thought. I live in NY...for 1 MILLION in manhattan you can get yourself a 1 room condo. NY is among the highest taxed states in the US, definitely top 5.

Its goddamn disgusting what this nation has become. The balls of this corrupt govt to even think about raising taxes is appalling. Its almost like they are "letting" you keep whatever you earn after taxes and be thankful they don't take the rest. We have 1/2 the nation that works and the other 1/2 with their hands out. When the 1/2 that works gets tired of supporting the other 1/2, we will become a 45/55 and then a 40/60 and then lookout. One day this will happen...you see Egypt now?? That scene will be us one day..its a matter of time.

Lolz... this nation used to be a bunch of yeoman farmers who were in risk of starving to death if they had a bad crop yield. You may not like the government, but lets not get carried away.

Carried away?

14 trillion in debt? Obamacare? 10-15% nationwide unemployment? Idiotic government?? Corruption?

Oh I'm sorry....lets all reflect on times 150 years ago when we weren't around and compare them to now. Let me guess...are you one of the ones with your hand out...or are you just totally blind as to what is going on today?

95% of Americans disagree with you

You know if they taxed the rich more than 1 bedroom in Manhattan would drop in price.

Isnt New Jersey a fraction of the cost to live in and extremely easy to commute to NYC from? Plus i assume you get gardens there, hence the name Garden State.

I am just advocating a sane and rational approach to discussing where the US is has been and is heading. Clearly we are not going to get along.

You're right Shorty....we're all living in the lap of luxury. Being taxed up the ass (while they get away with a little slap on the behind) and constantly "assaulted" by both the general public and democrats (as of right now) is a great way of life. Everytime the govt needs $$ for more spending, they come after the people who already account for a huge amt of tax revenue while everyone else gets away.

Oh...and as someone who has experienced both sides of the fence (20k/yr--present), I can tell you that 250k is not rich. Of course your average person is going to say that..but once the shoes are switched they would say the same thing. When they start working 3-4 months for "free" just to pay the govt they will definitely sing a different tune.

I think NJ actually has a higher state tax than NY (or did?). FWIW I hate Manhattan. I would honestly say that if I could live there for free, I wouldn't.

Given the way you're complaining ITT, I think you invite this so-called "assault."

It's very easy to be biased about what's "rich" when you're, ya know, rich

That's a great clarification.

Seems presumptuous to assume that anybody that favors taxing the rich more than or equal to the current level indicates that they pay less taxes than you given many people much richer than you support that policy. Then again, it fits in well with your other posts, so why change things...

You're right Max...we would never get along.

Back to the point in the thread....250k is not rich. If any of you here are in that bracket you know what I'm talking about. If not and you do hopefully get there one day, you will see what I'm talking about.

I'm outta this thread boys and girls..its been fun.

They say only he who lacks knowledge is poor.... so yeah, I have no problem saying you aren't rich. Take care.

Come on now. I'm just saying it's harder to get by on 20k than on 200k. That's not a concept anyone should disagree with, regardless of your opinion on taxes. I'm not saying it's impossible to live on 20k nor am I saying 200k is considered rich.

"Get by" meaning "avoid starvation" or "afford xboxes and ipods"?

Holy cow this this the internet... people speak like that all the time to get points across...

By "get by" I mean, a person with 20k is pretty much only getting the essentials, i.e. they will not be saving any money, housing will be very modest, food budget will be tight, probably no tv, phone or internet. You also probably won't have very good insurance or none at all, meaning taxpayers get the expensive ER bill. If you have a family it is going to be really hard. A person with 200k doesn't have those problems. It's not just about "xboxes and ipods".

I can tell this conversation isn't going to get anywhere, which is crazy b/c I'm for less taxes. I just find it to be common sense that a person's "essentials" make up a much greater part of a 20k/yr person's budget than that of a 200k/yr person. With that, it also makes sense than if you take more money from the poorer person, there is a greater chance you will be cutting into their essentials and therefore they will suffer more than the well off person.

Well yeah, duh. People who generate 20k/year can consume less than people that generate 200k/year. Cool story bro.

It's not that they can it's that they have to.
02-17-2011 , 01:40 PM
wut?

same thing. Not "they are able to consume less" but what they can consume is less.
