I could try to go, but propects aren't great. Maybe if I work super hard and finish early. If you went to Alhambra to help me slap up some solar panels I could make it.
The town in Texas with some of the immigrant internment camps is like 12 hours driving from here. That's now on the list of possibilities.

Absolute earliest I could go is July 6th.

Edit: Although I think my next client is a big librul and might understand getting pushed back for a good cause. You may know him since he's a hollywood dude.

a little reading indicates the biggest holding facilities are in mcallen and brownsville (tornillo, near el paso, is also a name i'm seeing often wrt internment camps for children. for any forum regs who are considering driving down and protesting at any of the holding centers, i'm game and i have a house in plano that is open for anybody wanting to crash en route to/from any of the sites.

That's still a long drive. Can you pick me up in San Antonio?

Only half joking. I'm going somewhere this weekend to be really pissed off and make a lot of noise. It probably won't be TX, but I ain't staying home.

Went to a protest this AM in front of ice in downtown seattle. Small (hundred people maybe) as to be expected for 8am-10am on a workday, but tons of honking and encouragement from commuters.

I'm looking at Tornillo, which is about 12 hours driving from LA. Just raised the idea to my wife, she's thinking about it. So, wouldn't be coming through Plano but a very nice offer nonetheless!

Seems like organizing to support a worker strike (as in compensation to strikers) at Trump properties should be doable.

Maybe instead of jerking himself off in useless commercials Tom Steyer could make up lost wages for people striking at Trump properties, most importantly the D.C. hotel.

I'm not scared of anybody. But thanks for the advice. It's nice to know that somebody cares.

Got a text from the ACLU trying to organize a protest over the travel ban decision in SF tonight outside the federal building...at 9pm. Did they mean EST? That seems like an awkward protest time.

If anyone hears about anything in Los Angeles LMK. I'm about to drive home and would divert. I might just swing by the airport and see if there is anything around the Muslim ban.

DSA is at Grand Park protesting ICE. Nothing about LAX.
06-26-2018 , 08:49 PM
Scratch that, they're now at 535 N. Alameda, location of a detention facility.
06-26-2018 , 08:55 PM
Well, it's too late for me to go back there it's quite a ways. I went to LAX and there's no protest. There was a police checkpoint coming into the airport which I have never seen before.
06-26-2018 , 09:07 PM
I should put a "NO ICE" sign up at my house shouldn't I? I would put one on my truck but I assumed it would be a ticket magnet.

Tip to everyone for finding protests: Check your local DSA chapter's twitter. They're usually there when something's going on, and they're the only nation-wide group with their **** together enough to reliably share info with the rest of the world.

Pretty much everone should be able to go to something tomorrow. Looks to be 7 figures nationally. We're deciding whether to go to one closer or go downtown.

Please don't be THIS guy today (the woman holding the sign):

Los Angeles: Lotta standing in the sun, but ok. We had Eric Garcetti, Kamala Harris, and Maxine Waters. Some more radical people. Turnout was pretty good, but not incredible. I'd guess 50000.

That reminds me - it was heartening to see that, while you might see the centrist media printing garbage like WaPo's editorial, speakers at the SF rally mentioning that we stand with Maxine Waters got loud cheers. The people out there marching do not give two ****s about calls for civility (and lots of signs that people were carrying spoke to that effect - for example, "we'll be civil when you stop locking kids in cages").
06-30-2018 , 06:52 PM
Maxine probably got the loudest applause of anyone. I would have liked have seen Maxine get about 5 minutes solid of applause. It wasn't that, but it was good.

We also had John Legend and some Black Eyed Pea dude and maybe a couple other celebrities.
06-30-2018 , 06:57 PM
One of the BLM speakers went after Garcetti and liberal white supremacy.
06-30-2018 , 07:06 PM
Local turnout was fair to middling, which is pretty standard. I didn't have enough time today to go to Boston or NYC.
