Its not though, snap-apology just gets met with snap-calls-for-resignation.

He should have led with the Shaggy defense, and even though he didn't, its still probably correct to switch to it now.

There needs to be some sort of socially acceptable punishment lesser than having your career ruined, so people faced with this sort of thing don't have incentive to just lie through their teeth. Make him do physical charity work for six months or something. Have him carry boxes of canned goods to poor peoples' houses.

Not that it makes much of a difference but he was 24. Born in September 1959 and yearbook is from 1984 when he graduated med school.

I'm still mystified by the idea of a yearbook page for post-graduate programs. Are grown-ass twenty-something med students really putting together scrapbook photos for their yearbook page? Has anyone here had any experience with something like this? I imagine it's something they did because Facebook wasn't a thing back then.

You're right, I was going off an article that described the yearbook as "30 years ago" but that would be 1989, not 1984.

I don't know, Facebook wasn't really super popular yet when I graduated Law School and we didn't have one.

I graduated from law school before Facebook. We certainly didn't have a yearbook.

Definitely true. If he had been dressed as Michael Jordan and had painted his face black, that would have been a terrible decision but perhaps something that he could survive.

But this looks like a paired costume, in which case it makes absolutely no difference whether he is the guy in blackface or the guy under the hood.

So if he refuses to step down, will/can they impeach? Dude has to quit for the good of the party and his own state. He will **** over Dems everywhere by staying in office. And it's unlikely much will get done in terms of governance with him in there.

"I don't think I did that, but nonetheless I apologize for doing it."

So he did it, isn't sorry about it, and has the intelligence of a goldfish.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam apologized on Friday night for a photograph on his 1984 medical school yearbook page showing him and another person in racist garb at a party, but said he would serve out his term even as pressure piled on from fellow Democrats for him to step down.

In a statement from his office, Mr Northam indicated he was one of the people shown in the photo, which depicted one person in blackface standing next to another in a Ku Klux Klan costume.

He did not identify which one was him. His spokeswoman did not respond to requests for further comment.
So he admits he is one of them..just not which one.

He is the lowest. It's very damaging for the democrats and i think we all have to say rightly so. IT SHOULD BE DAMAGING FOR THEM. And i hate the gop.

It should be damaging for the Dems only if they had equivocated on the matter - which they didn't. Pretty much every Dem has called on him to resign.

Meh, we’re 50/50 on that. Rapey mcrapesalot is on the Supreme Court, but pedobear judge is not the senator from Alabama.

Meh, maybe 1/3 I forgot President Grabsembythepussy.

Edit: Forgot about that Florida SOS guy, so we/re 2 for 4.

lololol he says he’s not in the pic...but he DID once dress as michael jackson for a dance contest!!
02-02-2019 , 03:57 PM

OK so let's say in 1984 he 'darkened his face' as part of a Michael Jackson costume. Other med students get wind of this, rib him for it, and put the blackface/KKK photo in the yearbook as a prank. That's totally the kind of thing (male) med school students would do. *If true*, the question is whether he should resign for 'darkening his face' in 1984 as part of a MJ costume. I think the answer is clearly no but he'd need to provide evidence it's not him in the photo.

What a twist! I did not see this coming.

What's the solution? For Republicans racism is a feature not a bug. Their base is quite happy to elect racists. The Dems base is largely anti-racist. They're not going to tolerate the party leadership supporting racist behaviour.

I think he needs to beat it. At this point it doesn’t matter if he’s black or white. His actions in handling this have not been smooth, they’ve been downright criminal. He really needs to do some soul searching and look at the man in the mirror.
02-02-2019 , 04:16 PM
Good god, his answers to "Why didn't you immediately just say it wasn't you?" are ****ing awful.

"Well, my first intention was to reach out and apologize. The pictures were horrific."
02-02-2019 , 04:17 PM
he needs to moonwalk off the stage to bolster his story
