I remember my brother bragging about getting a picture with him (lol) about 3 years ago when he was in America. Apparently he has 2 armed bodyguards with him everywhere he goes

Billo on vacation vacated. That worked out well.

Somber note of respect to a legend of the industry.

I mean it's probably a bit of a face saving "leak" in that Fox, after serious and intense gumshoe work by the sweat of their brow, found even more victims so they just had to let him go. Never mind the victims they've already paid off.

Couldn't this get a bit awkward for him now - seeing as Fox surely have no obligation to pay off any more accusers?

Met a guy last night who is 100% all the accusations are lies, even the ones Fox settled.

Humanity is the worst.

A good article on O'Reilly's faux working class roots as a cover for racism and condescension of the snooty elites.

He grew up solidly middle class but plays it like he was fresh off the boat and working in the mines

Quote:
Why fake a humble background? Partly for business reasons: Joe Sixpack versus the elitists is a good posture for any talk show host, especially one on Fox. Partly out of vanity: It makes the climb to your current perch more impressive. Partly for political reasons: Under our system, even conservatives need some plausible theory to qualify for victim status, from which all blessings flow. But mainly out of sheer snobbery. And it's the only kind of snobbery with any real power in America today: reverse snobbery. Bill O'Reilly pretends (or maybe sincerely imagines) that he feels the sting of status from above. But he unintentionally reveals that he actually fears it more from below. Like most of us.

This is not a terrible thing. Reverse snobbery, unlike the traditional kind, is a tribute to democracy—it's egalitarianism overshooting the mark. And it is a countervailing social force against growing economic disparity. But when you're faking it, if you're not careful, reverse snobbery can look a lot like the traditional kind.

In high school, I picked up Al Franken's "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" because I thought the title was funny. I think it was the first political thing I ever read. Opened my eyes to the villainy of the right.

That was like 13 years ago, when I was a teenager. Now I'm 30, and I've learned a ton since then about how awful the right is. And through it all, Bill O'Reilly has been hosting The Most Popular Show In News, #1 with racists, misogynists, poor-shamers, and hippie-punchers.

And now he's finally, righteously gone, only to be replaced by Tucker Carlson, who is every bit as awful. (I watched his show last night, and he straight up blamed The PC Left for female genital mutilation.) Oh well.

It really disturbs me, also, when people are still apologists AFTER the person/entity in question has already admitted guilt.

I watch political shows on both the right and left. O'Reilly's sanctimony about how he worked summers painting and doing roofing work for minimum wage to put himself through college has always been over the top. College tuition has far exceeded inflation over the past 50 years and minimum wage has not kept up with inflation over that time.

It was always rage-inducing when BillO would opine that if students would just get off their lazy asses and work minimum wage jobs in the summer, they would be able to pay for college, just like he did in the early 1970s.

No one's admitted guilt, Fox News just really likes paying random women millions of dollars is all.

Baby boomers spending us into crushing debt and blaming us for it is infuriating. Olds LOVE hearing that bull****.

Just wanted to point out how it works for conservatives...

Sexual harassment makes you $25 million + full vacation benefits. Sexual assault makes you President.

He stopped doing his radio show in 2009.

NPR (specifically On Point) went pretty hard on Bill O today, was kind of impressed. The host used the phrase "white grievance" to describe his show. The guest used that phrase as well several times, stepping it up to "aging white grievance." He called Hannity "basically a propagandist," and said that Fox and Friends were peddling "alternative facts well before Kellyanne Conway uttered the phrase." They also had similar points as others itt about corporate morality.

Maybe they're catching on that no matter how much you try to be "balanced," the Sushy's of the world will still accuse you of a pro-Islam coverup after you put a murderer's Muslim faith in the ****ing headline. That and the fact that all the equal coverage in the world isn't going to stop Republicans from slashing your public funding to zero.

Franken's "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" was one of the first political books that I read. And to think it's only gotten much, much worse.
