It’s not just snark, she is drawing attention to legitimate issues long abandoned by sellout democrats.

Don't really get the comparison between a young working-class woman of color defending herself against sexist and classist personal attacks to a smug rich white British comedian making fun of Trump for millions of dollars a year, but it's hard to think clearly while I'm furiously masturbating. Oh god John Oliver is hot.

They’re both fun to watch, but clowning on Sarah Palin on Twitter is light entertainment at best. It’s leftists being funny for other leftists.

Narrator: No he isn't.

This is the appeal for me.

That and pol is filled with way too much negativity. This thread is a reprieve from that energy.

Don't all young people tweet too much?
11-21-2018 , 11:47 AM
Some people itt need to GET USED TO THE SLAYING IMO
11-21-2018 , 12:36 PM
What next, people complaining that Trump tweets too much?
11-21-2018 , 12:58 PM
I can't speak to AOC herself, but the general style is much more to my liking. Someone younger, who speaks to problems I have in a way that's personal instead of ran through some PR machine, and isn't some Former-Military-CIA-CEO-finance guy/ girl. Obama, for all the flack about being a technocratic Democrat, really did seem like a guy who you could sit down and have a beer with. AOC is much the same way, while I can't even imagine what Cory Booker and I would even talk about.

I guess we'll see how that plays out. People might want to have a beer with Obama but some people don't like his brand of politics regardless of how they perceive him.

I would bet most of the flack her doesn't come from her herself but the fact that we have a whole thread dedicated to her tweets. I like Bernie and I like his tweets but I don't see a thread for him and I wouldn't want one.

Why do you hate fun

"tweets too much" is the politics forum's version of pointy elbows.

The internet is how people get a lot of their info. Trump was ahead of the curve in spamming twitter. The edge the right wing has in getting their messages out and into just the right hands is amazing.

Sure her "clowning" entertains middle-aged liberals, but her social media mobilized enough people who weren't politically active to vote in a mid-term primary and defeat an entrenched, powerful, party-backed congressman who'd run unchallenged for years despite not living in the state or even having been elected through a primary in the first place. It helps empower young women of color to stand up for themselves and fight for what they believe in. It gets people excited about having a politician they can relate to. John Oliver's clowning entertains Libs (though I'm not really sure why) while making lots of money for himself and the largest media conglomerate in the world.

This is really great. I feel like we should consider creating a Congressional Twitter account subforum.
11-21-2018 , 02:17 PM
We should probably accept that while AOC is a politician, John Oliver isn't. Comparing the two as if they have the same goals is stupid.
11-21-2018 , 02:29 PM
Not even really worth engaging with someone who will drop in to this thread and hate on her. People who don't like it can really just **** off.
11-21-2018 , 02:30 PM
If you're sitting there feeling the need to rationally explain to some idiot troll the difference between AOC and John Oliver, you're almost as much of the problem as they are.

Basically be more like AOC.

Solid advice. I'm definitely pulling the trigger on that 50% off Instapot Black Friday sale now.

I appreciate that John Oliver and AOC are different in many respects.

I have never been one to think we shouldn't be constructively critical of our own. But this is just ridiculous. She is 28 and is miles ahead of 99% of the left in terms of brand, messaging, charisma, integrity, etc. No she isn't pefect but coming here to complain about the few things you don't like is ridiculous.

She tweets more content in fewer tweets than the sitting president of the country. Solid argument that she should just keep her mouth shut and listen to the olds tho.
