I'm in Zone 4 and the only way my herbs and especially tomatoes and peppers started by seed produce a decent amount by autumn is to start indoors under light.

I do plant cilantro a few times from seed throughout the summer because it bolts on me always so fast I can't just start with a bunch and keep it all summer.

I'm pretty happy with my indoor basil crop, started it from one seed:

How is this not costing something like 2x packs of fresh basil from the supermarket a day just in electricity? Looks cool though and I love fresh basil so not knocking it, just doesn't seem that efficient necessarily.

*EDIT* Unless there are weed plants just out of frame utilizing the light too, in which case, that's brilliant.

It's just a hobby and also serves as decor, I'm not trying to save money on basil. The lights are regular LEDs plus they're part of the room lighting so the cost is really marginal. I got a potato vine too, I need to re-pot ASAP.

From what I've seen, I'm heads and shoulders more charitable than anyone else in this thread in responding to substantive responses to my posts. My posts tend to get a deluge of hate-spew from the AOC fanatics, but still I give genuine responses to those that I think might be attempting a good-faith discussion. If you can link to a post that was substantive that I missed, I will respond to it.

That's not true. I called the people who act like acolytes acolytes. But it shouldn't seem like a weird coincidence to you that a thread whose premise is praising AOC is full of AOC acolytes.

Also M2Bs point is correct; Trump openly mocked Jeff Sessions’ accent and none of these guys made a peep. Guess you could argue we already know he’s garbage and we expect more from AOC but you’d probably come off as disingenuous.
Yeah, I get it. Criticizing her makes me racist. You guys have cried wolf with the racism card a few million too many times for it to mean anything anymore. Nothing I've said in criticizing her phony accent, which you concede is phony, is actually racist.

Would you expect them to? I don't constantly use them either, only when they're appropriate. And they accurately describe a huge percentage of this forum. Is the point you're making that I'm not a liberal because I don't talk like your liberal friends?

My point is she looks bad affecting an accent to ingratiate herself with the audience. My point is it's phony, and that her doubling down and accusing those criticizing her of racism and white privilege made her look even worse. I thought it was a political misstep. That's my point. Feel free to address it in a way that I haven't responded to already, or feel free to say nothing.

Just admit she makes you feel funny inside and go away.
I've noticed this a lot in this forum—this kind of projecting. Do you even know that I'm straight? Just a weird, childish ad hominem. When you find yourself resorting to saying things like that, it generally means you're losing the argument.

I've been to the Bronx a couple times to see the Yankees play. I've overheard blacks on the subway there and the way back. I don't remember them saying there ain't nothin' WROUNG with Jeter trying to steal second. In high school my best friend senior year was a black guy from Queens, and there were a couple other black guys from NYC in my classes, although I don't know which borough those two were from. None of them talked like AOC during her speech. I have a decent linguistics background, but I've never done any work specific to Southern dialects. So maybe you're right that most of the people in this thread are better qualified than I am to be talking about this. Trolly and Fly and Max Cut, they have PhDs in linguistics, right? Maybe I should defer to them. And I can trust they would be objective about all this.

"i've been to the bronx a couple of times to see the yankees play" is an amazing code-switching argument.

Since you asked:

I haven't actually heard the clip in question, but is the issue here just that she had a weird enunciation of the word "wrong?" Because that seems like possibly just someone stumbling over a word? "Ain't nothing" seems like pretty common bit of vernacular to put an emphasis on something.

Either way, as a white dude I'm sort of cautious about telling POCs when they're being inauthentic in spots like this. I am myself guilty of calling people like Herman Cain "Uncle Toms" or minstrels, but recently I've begun to realize that isn't a great look.

Using "SJW" unironically is sort of a tell, my dude.
04-08-2019 , 08:36 PM
Hope she does something else that pisses her obsessive anti fans off so we dont have to hear about her accent anymore.
04-08-2019 , 09:00 PM
I use a ton of basil so I have several pots of basil plants I trim down, process with a bit of olive oil, and freeze in ice cube trays for winter use. If I started them from seed outdoors I wouldn’t get leaves until June/July. They work great all winter if vac sealed. I used to have a crawl space and had different LED lights that worked for starting stuff. I need some of your lights or a south window.

My dude you ran to this thread because a bunch of Ben Shapiro flunkies tried a coordinated Twitter posting spree about this to create a mini-scandal, son, you're literally following a script.

For the dictionary dude you know that's not really what acolyte means, right? None of us know AOC or work with her campaign. It implies a degree of formal connection, assisting the clergy and whatnot, it's more like apprentice with a religious overtone.

Buddy you called me a "victicrat." Also that is not what "cried wolf" means. You never believed us, not once.

Believing in liberal ideals and policies is a requirement to be so described, yes, but in another tell of your poor education, AOC isn't really that liberal. She's a democratic socialist, which is the other wing of the Democratic party in this country. When you live in a bubble of AM radio and Fox News racial resentment storytime getting educated on the different factions of the center-left opposition tends to get overshadowed with stories about migrant caravans and the gypsy menace.

She doesn't look bad. The speech was good. Important points and well made.

This is definitely how non-racist liberals relay an anecdote about hearing black people talk!

Again, you lack the intellectual wattage to successfully reference the parable of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. So yes, everyone else is more qualified to opine. You're trailer trash with a ****ing trust fund, never forget that.

Fly cross-checking fools on The Boy Who Cried Wolf never gets old. It’s like when Zeppelin comes on the radio. What a classic.

I could read fly dunking on people all day.

Very enjoyable.

I still have baby pictures of that basil plant from when I transplanted it:

Does anyone know how much space a potato vine needs?

Read some piece about AOC today - wish I still had the link. Whole article was party insiders bitching that she didn’t play the party machine game and she doesn’t make it to a lot of the “kiss the ring” events. Al Sharpton even got into the article and he was a tad passive-aggressive about how she missed some big yearly event he holds that EVERYONE goes to.

These olds don’t get it and never will. They even were talking about potentially redistricting her seat with less favorable geography, but then realized she’d be more popular than whoever she ran against Democrat or Republican lol.

Throwing in a completely unnecessary reference to the area's most well-known institution to try and be more convincing does the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.

In the 2019 version the boy nailed the call practically every time and the wolves are now running the entire village but the villagers still don't believe him. Nah, wolves used to exist but our guys are like aggressive dogs at worst. Stop being so dramatic.
