I think there's a greater chance they capitulate, though. It'll be a bogus investigation, but it's not going to find anything anyway. Thus I think they'll decide they are better off capitulating and avoiding a massacre when Congress won't do **** about it.
They already capitulated? Rosenstein expanded the existing investigation they were doing into Trump's earlier FISA complaints.

Mixing in petty indignities like this to go along with the dramatic flirtations with the disaster and the serious long-term damage really amps up the awfulness of all this. Like this twist of citrus in an old-fashioned.

I think 15% is about right. Trump has consistently backed down from every single dick-swinging demand he's ever made.

For Rosenstein's part, handing the matter off to the IG is a smart play that calls Trump's bluff and keeps the FBI from being further politicized.

Sort of. They expanded the IG investigation. They didn't start a new one - which is what Trump wanted, I assume that's why he's having a meeting.

Wray and Rosenstein better not leave one or the other alone with Trump.

Isn't it kind of an open secret the FISA investigation is a joke? It takes relatively little of Rosenstein's capital to say "gotcha, we'll for sure look into this 'spy' thing wow that sounds shady" when they are fully aware it's a nonsensical claim and an investigation will amount to nothing.

The important thing is Trump is putting the conspiracy theory out there, undermining faith in the FBI, testing the constitutional limits to his power, and attacking political opponents. That a couple snippets might emerge from an investigation as fodder for more conspiracy peddling is a minor freeroll.

Even if there were a serious spy effort carried out by the FBI at Obama's direction against his campaign, would Trump even be able to competently call for an investigation that would actually find it? Things that are difficult and complex are not Trump's forte. He could probably not be less interested in the inner workings of a proper investigation, even one into his political opponents.

If he 'demands' a new investigation and doesn't get it, I guess that sets up an excuse to fire Rosenstein that his media stooges can parrot. But the meeting is probably just him making noise, since he already got what he asked for.

Yes, agree with this. Remaining question is if he will be pacified by Rosenstein's response so far. By pacified I mean of course he continues his nonsensical tweets but doesn't take drastic action.

Globe and Mail reporting is good but they are a cesspool of right wing columnist and editorials. Their editorial board has endorsed the conservative candidate in each of the last four federal elections.

Pretty sure that's what happened with the Yates firing. The excuse in her case was opposing the travel ban, but the real reason was she knew too much about Flynn.

It's 3:20. Rosenstein should (hopefully) be standing up to Trump right about now. Wray makes me a little more nervous. As pointed out though, neither of them can let themselves be alone with Trump, if possible.

SHS said leakers should be fired. How long before Trump leaks his DOJ meeting details?
