The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

African GDP has increased dramatically since the first recorded case of Ebola. This is proof that Ebola is good for Africa.

Life expectancy among white males and infant mortality rate in the USA have both dropped recently due to GOP policies.

And the Koch funded book telling a bunch of reactionary people irrelevant stats has the expected effect. Which reminds me that you're not arguing in good faith and facts mean nothing to you.
No, someone said millions were going to die because Trump withdrew the US from the Paris climate agreement. That stat shows that climate related deaths are decreasing. Air quality is improving and climate related deaths are decreasing but because the US has withdrawn from the Paris agreement for atleast 8 years I'm suppose to agree that millions are going to die?

There is literally no value in arguing with a climate change denier. The very act of holding that position means they are incapable of reason.

Why do you think things got better in the past few decades?
What are we doing differently now, with this administration?
What do you think the outcome of these changes are going to be?
How many additional climate related deaths are acceptable to you so your employer can get a tax break?

Saying millions of people are going to die because of a policy change is a terribly nihilistic thing to say especially when the world is improving so much, I feel bad for the people around you.
05-26-2018 , 11:54 PM
Shifty. You ignoring the WHO stats or what?
05-26-2018 , 11:58 PM
Man. Pinkner really did some damage.

Would be better if everyone actually read it instead of just taking the simplest possible takeaway from it.

Sure. The world is getting better on a lot of metrics, that doesnt mean

a) that it will keep going
b) that we should dismantle the things that helped it get better (humanism, education, science)
c) that improvement is a straight line and that we arent on the cusp of things getting horribly worse for a few decades.

Seriously. At the most generous it seems like there's some kind of closeness that's affecting her objectivity. In no other world would the President, again, the President of the United States get defended by saying that maybe he didn't know about the meeting when the President, again the President of the United States spewed crazy lines about it all day. It's not even the standard we'd hold anyone in charge of anything, it's like a mother defending her obviously psychopathic son

At worst she's just a troll who knows she's cozy with the President.

Which organisation has kidnapped and lost more children, the terrorist group boko haram famous solely for kidnapping children or the united states federal government? The answer may surprise you...

Her TL is a trainwreck to read with all the retweets but best as I can tell she's defending the fact that she did not use the word "lie" in describing Trump's actions here:

Yeah I think I gotta go with "**** you" if you think it's not appropriate to call it a "lie" when Trump disowns his own policy about separating immigrant families

This is a big MSM problem in general. She just happens to be the worst at it. I think they're afraid of losing access or something, because it's been how long now?...and they still say "he misrepresented" or "he's wrong about"...no, he ****ing LIES, over and over.
05-27-2018 , 07:23 AM
Idk I think she's making a fair point. Trump is a liar, but he's also an idiot. As a reporter, if you can't reasonably determine that the person knew what they were saying was false, you should not call it a lie. You may object that Trump SHOULD know his own policy, but of course it's Trump, so I don't even think that's a sensible expectation based on what we know of him.

Libs would be a lot happier with these mainstream outlets if they included a disclaimer that the reporters could not determine whether Trump was lying or just clueless.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I agree for many of them they are deathly afraid of losing access, because they have no idea how they would do their jobs. They don’t even embrace both sides but tread closer to no sides. It is a pretty big failure on their part.

If they lost access they could try learning how to be a reporter..

Totally normal. Totally reasonable.

Yeah, but the man is President. He has no right to the level of ignorance he has. He has more resources than just about any other individual in the world. At this point he is choosing to be ignorant of reality. That is functionally equivalent to lying.

Your argument applies in some way to, say, a man on the street type who just doesn't know a lot of stuff. You forfeit that benefit of the doubt when you choose to run for President.

Hahaha such an amazing flip in the space of like five posts.

It’s not happening!

Ohh **** it is, well that’s tragic.

But we were doing so well I thought?

Yeah that’s the point dip****.

That and his conduct, even if he didn't know, is appalling and plain crazy. He attacked the NYT and went on a rant about the media etc. If my boss or coworker wanted to know where the report I got for them was, and I told them I put it on their desk, and they started screaming that I'm a liar and I'm out to get them and then they find it under some papers the excuse for their conduct isn't that it was justified because they didn't realize the report was there. The correct response would have been to look on the desk to find it first.

At this point everyone knows Trump's MO. He invents his own version of events and then maximally bullies and lies to everyone around as if his version of events were true. Why anyone is trying to parse and justify his actions after the fact I don't know. Especially for an organization that's supposed to be critically covering him.
