They had their own concussion issues, but have really worked hard to fix it in recent years
I've cut back on most sports that are synonymous with head injuries, including football and wrestling. Hockey has been tougher for me to quit, but I feel the league has really made a concerted effort to curb the concussion issue there. Plus it never feels like they outright scumily lied to their players about the risks like the NFL did.
Thing have changed since CTE came to light. I used to love a good big hit in the NHL. Stevens lighting up Lindross was the height of entertainment to me (hence the 04 in my sn) but now I look back on it and cringe and feel bad that Lindross almost certainly suffers from CTE. That's not fun. It's not entertainment. CTE is devastating and can literally turn a normal person into something monstrous, unrecognized by their family.
I don't fault people who continue to enjoy the sports that perpetuate it, I just can't personally get my conscience around it.
