The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

The idea is that the owners get ALL the benefits of production, while the workers take on ALL of the liabilities. This has also been called "golden parachutes" or "income inequality." But it leads to a dual system: one system of rules for labor, and a totally different set of rules and penalties for capital (owners). Jeff Sessions commits perjury, he keeps his job. A normal person would be charged with perjury, a felony, and would face up to five years in prison. But Sessions is an "elite." Other elites don't want to bring down the normal penalties on him, because they want to continue to enjoy their elite privilege.
And take a second to think about the kind of systemic world this philosophy creates. It's a world where the Clay Davises and the Stringer Bells are always protected, keeping themselves one step away from the actual crimes and always remaining carefully insulated. While people like D'Angelo have to both do the work and take on the real physical risks of the crimes, people like State Sen. Clay Davis and Stringer Bell will always remain safe in a system like this. In fact, it incentivizes their exact behaviors. The exact kind of behaviors Donald Trump is known to have engaged in over many years.

I think the story there is that Hitler was considerably more humanized than Trump? That's my takeaway at least.

At the end of that clip, Clay Davis swears to continue serving "the people." Not the constitution, not the state of maryland or the city of baltimore, but "the people." That's the same pledge 45* made on inauguration day. The normal pledge is to serve The Constitution.

the Trump patriarchal family history is rife with law breaking for self-enrichment, Donald getting involved with Russia would just be more of the same, doesn't seem beyond his capabilities at all. also the Steele dossier, an actual intel report by a former Russia-stationed MI6 officer, says e.g. "Russian regime has been cultivating, supporting and assisting TRUMP for at least 5 years" and "the Kremlin had been feeding TRUMP and his team valuable intelligence on his opponents, including Democratic presidential candidate Hillary CLINTON, for several years" just on the first few pages.

Marlo is about a million times more capable and intelligent than Trump will ever be. Maybe he's Sean Spicer.

Some excellent writing about Trump as con man, relevant to Wire discussion.

as a jewish person, and also as a former journalism student I cannot fathom why they posted this on their website. I am appalled. Just waiting for the trump tweet that tells his slaves to go read the report about how cool hitler was.

it is not surprising that fox news audience needs reminders that hitler was in fact a man before he was a monster.

Well, I just had an "oh ****" moment. Marlo is Vladimir Putin. They both lie right to your face then use violence and power structure to move through the day.

I think Mark Cuban and Donald Trump would both agree with this statement:

"Men of certain caliber cannot allow fastidious morality to distract them from the exisgencies of commerce, can they Mr. Hearst?"

And Trump would definitely agree with Mr. Hearst towards the end of the clip:
"Elections cannot inconvenience me. They ratify my will or I neuter them."

Now that's just silly imo. You think he goes around in person having illicit chats himself? Get a grip man, Putin would obviously be The Greek.

Not often discussed is that the GOP may well not have 50 votes to go nuclear. See, when you've lost the popular vote in the last 6/7 of elections, maybe a bit of humility is due with respect to your ability to "own" the court for the next 25 years.

Mayhaps Trump gets one nominee and whatever sentient thing that is not Hillary who wins in 2020 gets 4 appointments who all are transgender gay-married atheists who fluently speak a foreign language. Perhaps ole Mitch's bite is no worse than Trump's, despite all the barking.
I don't think anyone on the actual left is making this argument, mostly because it's such an obviously bad idea.

There actually is an argument for not filibustering gorsuch

It's because R's wouldn't nuke and go with next steps like court packing at the same time. (naturally that was a FDR plan that failed)

"After meeting with Judge Gorsuch, conducting a thorough review of his record, and closely following his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I believe that he is a qualified jurist who will base his decisions on his understanding of the law and is well-respected among his peers," the Indiana Democrat said in a statement.

these ****ing spineless coward dems that are working with the enemy in this way need to be unseated immediately. I really hope people are taking note and will cost these people their jobs. MORONS

Is there an argument for not taking a dump in McConnells mouth?
04-02-2017 , 02:35 PM
The reason to filibuster is that McConnell said the American people should get to pick who makes scotus nominations. Currently, the will of the people is being denied in that realm. So until trump wins the popular vote he should not get to make scotus nominations, if you follow McConnells logic. Of course, we all know that rules only apply if you don't have an R by your name.

All of them are D's in R states, primary = seat's basically lock R though they're gonna lose WV, Indiana seats anyway, everyone's in self pres mode and not realize they might as well go off in a blaze of glory.

This.

As long as they don't get to 60, it doesn't matter if a few of them defect. People like Manchin and Heitkamp breaking ranks is good optics. Primarying people like that is a good way to ensure to ensure an R pickup. We need the Heitkamp/Donnelly/Manchin votes on other things.

Now if someone in a solid blue state votes for Gorsuch, nail his balls to the wall.
04-02-2017 , 05:34 PM
So with Donnelly that's 55 Senators then for sure. 52 GOP + Heitkamp (ND), Manchin (WV), and Donnelly (IN).

McCaskill is a "No" for sure, she has stated.

Tester - MT is still in the air. King - ME maybe?

That gets you 57. Perhaps Bennett from CO since Gorsuch is from Colorado. That's 58.

From there your grasping at senior Senate Dems on the judiciary committee to avoid the nuclear option, perhaps Feinstein, Leahy, Coons?

It will be close to get to 60.
