Edit: Oh and you use it because of this new law, where apparently your data is for sale or something (I haven't followed it in detail, I'm not American so idgaf). What VPNs offer their customers is identity concealment, often to evade geoblocking.
We can't access our school's email from our new location, about 100 miles away, unless we use a VPN. Is that due to geoblocking, and if so why would the school do that for towns just 100 miles away?

If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear

if you have a VPN do you still keep your ISP? the VPN just blocks the ISP from knowing what you search and what sites you visit?

At this point we basically have Fox News pundits setting policy for our country.

Is there anyone who wanted the internet privacy rules repealed? The US Govt is at war with the people of America.

Which means their paymasters. Hannity and Beck were literally on the Koch payroll.

Enemies of the people. Everything trump says is inevitably about himself.

Yep, the owners of Comcast, AT&T and Verizon.

Welcome to America, the first Corporatocracy

To those of you who are learning about VPN's and starting to care about privacy (as our speech becomes less free and protestors are labeled "economic terrorists"), this seems like a good time to point out that there are some email services that provide privacy, if you don't want your emails being sold to marketers and read by Big Brother.

Lavabit is back. It's the one Edward Snowden used while in the US. As proof that they've got your back, when the gov't told Lavabit to hand over the decryption keys, Lavabit chose to shut down rather than comply.

ProtonMail is what I use. Not even they know your password, so they couldn't hand over your emails even if they wanted to. A neat feature for paid users is that you can have end-to-end encryption when sending to non-protonmail users (and then they can reply encrypted as well).

Riseup is intended for activists, and not everyone who tries to join is accepted.

And there are probably some others.

This is clearly what Trump meant when he said he was going to "Drain the Swamp." You have to take him seriously, not literally. /sarcasm

Oh, thanks Speaker Ryan. Always looking out for Freedom. But why didn't you say what the regulations are in your tweet. Not enough characters I suppose.

Republicans in Congress passed a bill to repeal a set of Alaska’s wildlife regulations to favor a specific group of citizens: sport and trophy hunters. Republicans have allowed for shooting of hibernating bears with cubs; using airplanes to scout and shoot grizzly bears; and baiting and trapping bears with steel-jawed, leghold traps on federally owned land in Alaska.

That seems like a regulation Uday and Quday would really love to see rolled back. I can just see them shooting some hibernating bear in Alaska and then getting plastered on Trump Whiskey.

Of course they will

I just saw a CBS News headline stating that 64% of Republicans do not believe Russia interfered in any way with the election. If they're that willfully ignorant how hard will it be to convince these dullards that giving up their Internet privacy is actually a good thing for USA#1?
03-29-2017 , 10:33 AM
Also yes, this country is ****ed. I've been saying it since election day but the first time I really truly believed it deep down was yesterday after that committee voted not to force Trump to release his tax returns. We have a historically awful president who will almost certainly go down as the WOAT and his political party is pulling out every stop to protect him despite seeing fully just how ****ing terrible he is (even if he's squeaky clean on all things Russia he's STILL just awful at his job). I have very little hope for the country at this point.
