So you think that some portion of the Trump team is interested in the ascension of Russia as an ideological matter?

flynn wants total victory over the muslim ideology and sees russia as an ally in the upcoming global war (with ethnic cleansing campaign?), same with bannon.

trump wants money and prestige more than anything his whole life and is dumb enough to be manipulated.

manafort is chaotic neuteral and will fight for the interests of putin anywhere in the world as long as he keeps getting 8-figure deals under the table

carter page wants to see russia ascendant for some reason. he was absolutely giddy going on cnn and msnbc giving revealing interviews hinting at russia's influence

This all bolsters my central point, which is that none of these people are interested in increasing Russian power per se. Russian power is a vessel through which they believe they can operate.

If the end result of Team Trump's antics increases Russia's power - who cares about the motivation?

If North Korea forces the US (even if it was under a hypothetical Clinton presidency) to get really nasty, I think I'd want Russia to like us a lot more than they did during the Cuban Missile Crisis when I thought I was going to die. (But I am not suggesting that this thought had anything to do with Trump's machinations.)

Not sure what specific scenario this is referring to. I'm no expert but I'm not aware of any strong ties with North Korea and Russia (or North Korea and anyone tbh).

I'd feel a lot safer if the West stood up together against Putin.

I think China, not Russia, is the main concern wrt North Korea

In terms of North Korea, it's China and not Russia that the US needs to sustain dialogue with.

China mostly but South Korea also I'd think.

Yeah sure in the real world. But we're in Sklansky thought-experiment world here. Try to keep up.

Should not be worrying so much about Russian influence so much in a Russia v Yanklandia kind of way, much more important is stopping the proliferation of the NEW Russian System.

The NRS is a much better way of creating legitimacy and creating consensus than the ORS, not requiring any archipelagos dedicated to gulags and which also lets you rape your country for gargantuan financial gain that makes too big to fail seem like amautear hour. Enjoy massive popularity and get filthy rich, whats not to like.

The ORS (Old Russian System) was vastly inferior to "Democracy" when it comes to creating consensus and getting rich, but the NRS certainly seems able to give it a run for its money, any western leader would love to have Putin's approval numbers and most Western leaders will never get remotely close to Putin's big bucks.

So there is two issues really, there is democrats needing to win the next election, whereby dems might have better platforms than russia boo hiss, but also anyone interested in humanism and progressive rational ideology, needs to understand that their is a new potent system of power maintenance on the block and going forward we are moving into a new historic period of a clash of systems.

Democracy V Deplorableism

There is no timeline where Russia steps in due to us attacking North Korea.

South Korea has no influence on North Korea, but China has quite a bit -- it can pull the plug, basically.

It's China that is keeping North Korea alive, if barely so, and they are the ones who fought US and South Korean forces back last time. China would probably want something too important for US in exchange for giving up North Korea.
